Juan José MataandInstinct Agent fb01bbbae3 fix(rules): keep dynamically added nested-attribute keys numeric (#3444)
* fix(rules): keep dynamically added nested-attribute keys numeric

Rails strong params only treat integer-keyed hashes as nested attributes
(ActionController::Parameters.nested_attribute? matches /\A-?\d+\z/), so
rules_controller.js keys of the form "new_1"/"new_2" (introduced in
457698f, PR #3397) were silently dropped on submit: creating a rule from
the modal failed with "must have at least one action" even though an
action was present, and the re-rendered form lost the entered rows.

Date.now() alone can repeat within the same millisecond and a small
counter alone can collide with the numeric indexes Rails assigns to
persisted rows on edit forms, so combine them (Date.now() * 1000 + seq)
in both rules_controller.js and rule/conditions_controller.js.

Adds a system test that creates a rule through the modal with
dynamically added rows; no system test previously covered this path,
which is why the regression shipped.

* Fix rule creation regression

Juan José Mata 82519192ac Improve spending chart mobile layout (#3435)
* Improve spending chart mobile layout

- Name the compared month ("August 2026") instead of the generic
"Previous month" label that truncated on narrow viewports
- Keep the signed delta on one line: nowrap amounts, wrap as a unit
- On mobile widths, label x-axis ticks for the selected month only so a
longer previous month's tail tick ("Aug 31") doesn't read like a bug
- Show a compact date range ("Sep 01 - 6, 2026") on narrow viewports

* Compute comparison label and compact date range in the controller

Addresses review on #3435: moves previous_label and date_range_short out
of the partial into build_spending_trend_data, and puts the single-day
compact range behind its own i18n key instead of a hard-coded format.

* Revert accidental local-env ruby version bump

.ruby-version and Gemfile.lock were swept into the previous commit by a
git add -A from the local verification sandbox (3.4.10 vs the repo's
pinned 3.4.9, which setup-ruby cannot provision on ubuntu-24.04).

* Use the controller t() helper for compact date range translations

Project convention is t() over I18n.t for user-facing strings in
controllers (CodeRabbit review on #3435).

* Don't over-explain in comments

457698f75b feat(rules): support multiple tags in the set transaction tags action (#3397)
* feat(rules): support multiple tags in the set transaction tags action

Fixes #3353. Reuses the existing DS::TagSelect multi-select tag picker
(made generic via attribute:/show_label:) instead of a native
<select multiple>, so the UX matches the rest of the app. Multiple
tag ids are stored as a comma-separated string in the existing
value column, keeping single-tag rows backward compatible with no
migration. Also closes a read-modify-write race in
SetTransactionTags#execute via with_lock.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(rules): address automated review findings on multi-tag actions

- Fix data export/import: multi-tag actions were exported/imported as
one opaque comma string, losing all but a bogus combined tag on
restore. Each tag id is now resolved/reconstructed independently,
  with a backward-compatible scalar value_ref for single-tag actions.
- Fix N+1 in Rule::Action#value_display (options queried once per tag).
- Add aria-label to DS::TagSelect's trigger button when show_label is
false, so the control keeps an accessible name.
- Localize the "to" label in rule action rows (rules.actions.to_label).
- Use a monotonic counter instead of Date.now() for nested form
indices, closing a same-millisecond collision window.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(rules): batch tag lookups in multi-tag import resolution

Avoids one find_by query per tag name when reconstructing multi-tag
rule actions during import.

* fix(rules): resolve jjmata review findings on multi-tag action

- rules_controller.js: prefix the JS-side nested-form index counter
with "new_" so it can never collide with the numeric indexes Rails
assigns to already-persisted conditions/actions on an edit form.
- data_exporter.rb: key the value_ref scalar/array decision off the
number of tag ids on the action, not the number that still resolve,
  so a partially-orphaned multi-tag action keeps round-tripping as an
  array.
- rule_import.rb: split comma-separated set_transaction_tags values
into individual tag names during CSV rule import, matching the
batched resolution already used by Family::DataImporter.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(rules): CSV-quote multi-tag names so commas don't split them

CodeRabbit flagged that a tag name containing a comma (e.g. "Food,
Dining") would be silently split into two tags when round-tripped
through the comma-separated multi-tag value/CSV formats used by
Family::DataExporter, Family::DataImporter, and RuleImport.

Add Rule::Action.encode_multi_value_names/.decode_multi_value_names,
backed by Ruby's CSV line quoting, and use them at all three call
sites instead of a plain join(",")/split(","). A single name without
a comma round-trips byte-identical to before, so existing exports and
CSV rule templates are unaffected.

Juan José Mata 73abe473b7 Add cumulative spending chart dashboard widget (#3404)
* Add cumulative spending chart dashboard widget

New dashboard section showing the selected month's running spending total
against the previous month's full curve on a shared day-of-month axis,
inspired by Copilot Money's Spending card.

- IncomeStatement#daily_expense_series: per-day expense totals in family
currency, same scoping as the other income statement totals (visible,
posted, budget-included transactions; report-included accounts; daily
  exchange-rate conversion)
- PagesController: spending_trend section with month picker (clamped like
money_flow), cumulative series builder, delta vs. previous month
- spending-chart Stimulus controller (D3): previous month in gray, current
month in green with a today marker, gridlines with compact currency
  labels, shared tooltip
- i18n (en) and model/controller tests

* Address PR review: locale-safe axis labels, currency/rate-aware cache key

- X-axis tick labels are now rendered server-side (I18n.l), one per axis
day: when the previous month is longer than the selected one it owns the
tail labels, so a tick can no longer roll past the selected month's end
(e.g. day 31 of a February view showed "Mar 3"), and labels follow the
app locale instead of D3's default English time-format locale.
- IncomeStatement#daily_expense_series cache key now includes the family
currency and the latest exchange-rate timestamp, since ExchangeRate::
  Importer's upsert_all and currency changes leave entries/accounts
untouched and previously served stale chart data.

* Fix spending trend tests: empty-state month in axis test, dropped start_date key

- Axis-label test picked a month pair with no transactions, so the widget
rendered its empty state and there was no chart payload to parse; seed
spending in both months under test.
- The clamp test still asserted on the payload's removed start_date key;
assert the clamped month via the current series' first point date instead.

ab175cc43c fix(ui): make whole list row clickable, not just the name text (#3367)
* fix(ui): make whole list row clickable, not just the name text

Fixes #3366. Transaction, split-parent, trade, and account list rows carry
hover styling that implies the whole row is clickable, but only the name
text actually opened the detail drawer — clicking the avatar, amount, or
whitespace between them did nothing. Add a clickable-row Stimulus
controller that delegates a click anywhere on the row to its primary link,
while leaving real interactive descendants (checkbox, category menu,
account link, quick-edit badge, kebab menu) to handle their own clicks.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(ui): exclude popover/menu panels from row click delegation, preserve modifier clicks

Codex review on #3367 flagged two issues in clickable_row_controller:
- Category/account popovers render as position:fixed but stay DOM
descendants of the row, so clicking their background (padding,
headings, plain text) fell through to the row's link.
- linkTarget.click() discarded Ctrl/Cmd/Shift modifiers, so
modified clicks opened in the current frame instead of a new tab.

* fix(ui): exclude quick-edit dropdown, use window.open for modified clicks

CodeRabbit review on #3367 found two more issues:
- The investment activity quick-edit dropdown is a hand-rolled
  absolute-positioned panel (not DS::Popover/DS::Menu), so it wasn't
covered by the earlier popover/menu exclusion and background clicks
inside it fell through to the row link.
- Redispatching a synthetic MouseEvent with modifier flags doesn't
actually open a new tab: browsers only honor Ctrl/Cmd/Shift on
trusted, native click events, so the previous "fix" was cosmetic.
Explicitly call window.open() for modified clicks instead.

* fix(ui): make Dividend/Interest quick-edit badge not swallow row clicks

jjmata found that the activity-label badge renders as a real <button>
even when Dividend/Interest trades have no dropdown/click handler
(income_trade), so clickable-row's "a, button, ..." exclusion still
treats it as an interactive descendant and swallows the click instead
of opening the row — same dead-spot symptom as #3366, relocated to
this one badge. Render it as a <span> in that case so the row click
delegates normally.

* fix(ui): show pointer cursor on delegated Dividend/Interest badge

CodeRabbit caught that the badge kept cursor-default after becoming a
non-interactive <span> that delegates its click to the row link — the
cursor no longer matched the actual (now clickable) behavior.

Nate Mendes 20b15442b4 feat(forms): parse pasted formatted amounts in money fields (#3300)
* feat(forms): parse pasted formatted amounts in money fields

Number inputs silently reject pasted values like "20,000 " or
"1.234,56", leaving the field blank. Money fields now intercept the
paste, run it through parseLocaleFloat (spaces stripped, thousands and
locale decimal separators handled), and insert the plain number — so
amounts copy cleanly out of statements and spreadsheets.

* fix(forms): reject non-amount pastes and honour currency precision

parseLocaleFloat coerces unparseable text to 0, so the finite check in
pasteAmount never fired. Pasting "$1,234.56" — or any stray text — wrote
0.00 over the field instead of falling through to the browser, which is
worse than the blank field the feature set out to fix. The clipboard text
is now validated first by a new parse_amount_paste util, which also strips
a leading or trailing currency symbol so statement formats parse, and
reads parenthesised amounts as negative rather than dropping the sign.

The precision fallback was hard-coded to 2 while the field renders with
the selected currency's default precision, so pasting into a BTC or KWD
amount lost digits. It is derived from the input's step instead, which
already tracks the live currency selection.

Dispatch change alongside input: auto_submit_form listens for change on
number inputs, so an auto-submitting money field never saved a pasted
value.

* fix(forms): read the sign before stripping the currency symbol

The currency strip ran before the sign was read and accepted any
non-digit run, so "$-500" parsed as +500 and "USD (1,200.00)" as +1200.
Since the handler also dispatches change, an auto-submitting money field
could post a debit as a credit. The same permissive strip turned prose
like "memo 500" into 500.

The text is matched against a strict grammar instead: an optional sign,
an optional currency symbol or code of at most three characters on either
side, and a number. The sign is read first so it survives the strip, and
parentheses still mark a negative with the currency allowed outside them.
Anything that does not fit returns null and the browser handles the paste.

* fix(forms): accept only symbols and ISO codes as currency markers

The currency token matched any one-to-three character non-digit run, so
"fee 500" and "500 tax" parsed as 500 rather than falling through to the
browser. With the change event this handler dispatches, an auto-submit
form could save an amount lifted out of prose.

A marker is now either a letter-free symbol or a three-letter uppercase
ISO code. Lowercase prose no longer matches. The cost is that markers
containing letters, "R$" and "kr" among them, are no longer stripped and
those pastes fall through untouched — the safe direction, since accepting
them means accepting "fee 500" too. Telling them apart would need the
server's currency list, which a paste event cannot wait for.

* fix(forms): strip only currency symbols from config/currencies.yml

Matching a currency marker by shape accepted anything shaped like one:
"TAX" satisfied the three-uppercase-letter branch and "***" satisfied the
symbol branch, so "TAX 500" and "*** 500" both parsed as 500 and could be
written into the field.

The marker is now one of the 29 letter-free symbols this app already
declares in config/currencies.yml, so the allowlist is the supported set
rather than a shape. Lettered markers, "USD" and "kr" and "R$" among them,
are no longer stripped: telling them from prose needs the currency list,
which a paste event cannot wait for, and leaving the field untouched is
the safer of the two failures.

* fix(forms): reject multi-cell pastes and keep step="any" precision

Three parsing gaps, all reachable from a normal paste.

Internal whitespace was allowed anywhere inside the digit run, so two
adjacent spreadsheet cells arrived as one amount: "100\t200" parsed as
100200 and "1,234.56\t500" as 1234.565. Only the spaces locales actually
use to group digits are accepted now (space, no-break space, narrow
no-break space), so "1 234,56" still parses and a tab- or newline-joined
paste falls through to the browser.

#pastePrecision fell back to two decimals whenever the step was not
numeric, and Number("any") is NaN. Four money fields render step="any"
with no precision — the trade amount, price and fee on trades/show and
the fee on trades/_form — so a sub-cent crypto price pasted there was
truncated to "0.00". A step that declares no precision now writes the
parsed value unrounded rather than rounding it to a guess.

The doc comment still used "USD (1,200.00)" as its worked example, which
stopped parsing when currency markers were narrowed to letter-free
symbols.

The cases now import the shipped parser instead of a hand-copied
duplicate, rewriting its importmap specifier to a file URL so Node can
resolve it. That deletes the copy that could drift, and the three new
multi-cell cases fail against the previous parse_amount_paste.js with
"actual: 100200, expected: null".

Verified with node --test test/javascript/. Ruby and lint checks are
unchanged by this commit; biome runs in CI.

GFRandGerald 4f14bc7859 feat(transactions): cascade parent/subcategory checkboxes in the category filter (#3356)
* feat(transactions): cascade parent/subcategory checkboxes in the category filter

Checking a parent category in the transaction filter sidebar now auto-checks
its subcategories, and vice versa. Unchecking a single subcategory also
unchecks the parent so the submitted filter never silently includes a
category the user just deselected — Transaction::Search#apply_category_filter
includes every subcategory whenever a parent name is present, with no way to
exclude one individually, so the parent checkbox must reflect exactly what
gets submitted.

Also fixes the "swipe-to-categorize" pill picker (transactions/categorizes/show.html.erb),
which was still a flat alphabetical list with no parent/child indication —
now grouped and labeled consistently with the rest of the app (PR #2845, #3292).

Adds an :indeterminate style for .checkbox--light (only .checkbox--dark had one).

Closes discussion #3149.

This code was written by Claude Code (Anthropic).

* fix(transactions): preserve parent-only category filters on reopen

connect() derived each checkbox's parent/child state independently from
server-rendered checked attributes, so a parent-only filter (e.g. an
incoming link naming only the parent category) rendered the parent
checked with its children unchecked — syncParentState() then read that
as "some children unchecked" and cleared the parent, silently dropping
the filter on the next Apply. Cascade checked parents to their children
before deriving parent state so the picker matches the active query.

Also makes the internal helper methods private per review feedback.

* fix(transactions): eager-load category parent, fix categorize-pill filter text

Addresses PR #3356 review from jjmata:
- Current.family.categories.alphabetically caused an N+1 (SELECT per
parent) via display_name_with_parent in the categorize-wizard pill
loop. Added .includes(:parent) at all three call sites.
- data-filter-name still used the bare category name while the pill
label showed "Parent > Child" for subcategories, so searching by the
visible parent prefix found nothing. Both now share one computed
  label.

b62f6035ea fix(transactions): prevent duplicate creation on double-submit (#3338)
* fix(transactions): prevent duplicate creation on double-submit

TransactionsController#create had no protection against a repeated
form submission - a double-click, a browser retry, or two
near-simultaneous requests could all create a separate identical
transaction. Adds a per-form idempotency key (a UUID hidden field,
generated fresh on page load) that reuses the existing
entries(account_id, source, external_id) partial unique index, with a
pre-check for the sequential case and a RecordNotUnique rescue as the
authoritative backstop for genuine concurrent requests - the same
pattern already used by mark_as_recurring and the public API's
idempotency-key support.

Fixes #3334.

Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(transactions): store the idempotency key in its own column, not external_id

Codex review finding: reusing external_id/source for the web-form
idempotency token made every manually-created transaction satisfy
Entry#linked? (external_id.present?), since the form always supplies
a key. That incorrectly made manual entries look provider-synced -
disabling their date/nature/amount/currency fields in the editor
(app/views/transactions/show.html.erb), and hiding them from future
provider dedup matching (which filters to external_id: nil).

Adds a dedicated entries.idempotency_key column with its own partial
unique index scoped by account_id, used only for this de-duplication
and with no meaning anywhere else in the app, so it can't collide with
provider-linkage semantics. TransactionsController now tags/looks up
entries by this column instead of source/external_id.

Added a regression test asserting a transaction created via this path
is not linked? and has no external_id/source set.

Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(migration): rebuild an invalid index left by an interrupted CONCURRENTLY build

Codex review finding: index_exists? alone doesn't distinguish a valid
index from an INVALID one left behind by an interrupted CREATE INDEX
CONCURRENTLY (e.g. a deploy killed mid-build). A retry after such a
failure would short-circuit on the early-return and record this
migration as applied, while the actual uniqueness constraint stays
missing/broken. Checks pg_index.indisvalid directly before deciding
whether to skip the rebuild.

Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(transactions): rotate idempotency token on bfcache/Turbo restore, keep index removal concurrent

Codex flagged that a page restored from the browser bfcache or Turbo's
snapshot cache (back button, duplicated tab) keeps the already-consumed
idempotency token in the hidden field. Submitting a different, edited
transaction from that restored page would then match the old committed
entry and silently redirect onto it instead of creating the new one.
transaction_form_controller now rotates the token on turbo:before-cache
so any later restore starts from a fresh, unconsumed value.

Also address CodeRabbit's note that the migration's down block did a
blocking DROP INDEX instead of DROP INDEX CONCURRENTLY.

* fix(transactions): also rotate idempotency token on native bfcache restore

CodeRabbit noted turbo:before-cache only covers Turbo's own snapshot
cache, not the browser's native bfcache (e.g. a full navigation away
and back, not through Turbo drive). Add a persisted-pageshow handler
alongside it, and wire both through declarative data-action bindings
on the form per this repo's Stimulus convention instead of manual
addEventListener/connect/disconnect.

* fix(transactions): fall back to manual UUID when crypto.randomUUID is unavailable

crypto.randomUUID() requires a secure context, but this app's self-hosted
mode is commonly reached over plain HTTP (LAN, reverse proxy without TLS).
On such a deployment, calling it inside the cache-restore rotation handlers
throws, leaving the stale, already-consumed idempotency token in the hidden
field — a later edited resubmission would then silently match the old entry
via find_duplicate_manual_entry and drop the user's edits. Build a v4 UUID
manually from crypto.getRandomValues (which has no secure-context
restriction) when randomUUID is missing.

Also drops a stale comment reference to a MANUAL_FORM_SOURCE constant that
doesn't exist anywhere in the codebase, and corrects a rescue comment that
still described the old (account_id, source, external_id) index instead of
the (account_id, idempotency_key) index actually backing this constraint.

Ivan KostiashovandClaude Sonnet 5 9714612bb1 feat(rules): add not-equal, does-not-contain, and is-not-empty condition operators (#2529)
* feat(rules): add not-equal, does-not-contain, is-not-empty condition operators

Extend transaction rule conditions beyond "equal to" / "is empty":

- text: add "does not contain" (not_like), "not equal to" (!=), "is not empty" (is_not_null)
- number: add "not equal to" (!=)
- select: add "not equal to" (!=), "is not empty" (is_not_null)

NULL handling is inclusive so the operators match user intent:
- "!=" uses IS DISTINCT FROM, so e.g. "category not equal to X" also matches
  uncategorized (NULL) transactions
- "does not contain" also matches rows where the field is NULL

transaction_type keeps its custom operator set, and transaction_details is
pinned to the original operators since its JSONB apply only supports
contains/equals/empty semantics.

The conditions Stimulus controller hides the value field for both valueless
operators (is_null and is_not_null).

* refactor(rules): address PR review feedback on condition operators

- Pass VALUELESS_OPERATORS from Ruby to JS via Stimulus value attribute
instead of duplicating the list as a static class property, so there
is a single source of truth for which operators suppress the value field
- Clarify IS DISTINCT FROM comment to note the NULL-inclusion behaviour
is intentional for select-type fields (merchant_id, category_id) and
not applicable to number fields where NULL is impossible at the DB level
- Add test that exercises the OR IS NULL branch of not_like by using
  transaction_notes (entries.notes is nullable, unlike entries.name)

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* refactor(rules): localize condition operator labels via i18n

Moves all Rule::ConditionFilter operator labels (including ones that
predate this PR) out of OPERATORS_MAP and into config/locales, so
operators() resolves them through t() per request instead of hardcoded
English strings.

Brandon fe0d27471d feat(bills): the bills pages, calendar feed and in-page AI helpers (#3202)
* feat(bills): the bills pages, calendar feed and in-page AI helpers

Second of three chunks carved out of #3083, stacked on the schema and domain
core. This is everything a user sees and clicks. The whole surface sits behind
the preview flag, so it is unreachable until someone opts in.

Pages, all under one nav entry:

- the pay run, a month calendar, the full bills table, and the paycheck planner
- a detail drawer per bill, with payment history, price changes and cost
  analytics
- create and edit flows for bills, subscriptions, installment plans and income

The overview marks pay periods inside the month, so a weekly paycheck no longer
reads as one undifferentiated month of bills. Markers appear only when income
actually subdivides the month, which means monthly and undeclared income render
exactly as before and there is no new setting to configure.

Navigation and design system:

- one preview-gated nav item shared by the desktop rail and the mobile bar
- DS::Sparkline for payment-history charts, replacing raw SVG in views
- status badges render through DS::Pill rather than hand-rolled spans
- the suggestions panel is a disclosure that remembers being collapsed, per
device, the way privacy mode and the sidebar width already do
- every surface reflows to phone widths without horizontal scroll

Calendar feed: a signed ICS feed per family, served sessionless by token, with a
reset that revokes previously shared URLs.

In-page AI helpers: smart fill on the bill form and a smart configuration
proposal on an existing bill, each reading a bounded slice of charge history.
Provider-side prompt assembly sits behind the existing LlmConcept interface,
with an implementation for each of the two providers. These belong here rather
than with the assistant tools because they are buttons on these pages and lean
on the provider suggester, not on the tool registry.

Suite 7,776 runs green apart from the pre-existing passkey-session flake, which passes standalone. Rubocop clean, eager loading verified. The hosting guide for the feature ships here rather than with the schema, since its instructions walk pages this PR introduces.

* Render the suggested strip through DS::Disclosure

The hand-rolled details pair predates the component. The card_inset
variant is the same shape, so the strip now inherits the design system
chrome, and the persisted-disclosure controller rides along unchanged.

* Route the remaining hand-rolled chips through the design system

The subscription-state chips, rule-match chips and match-reason chips
become DS::Pill, with the state chips extracted to one shared partial so
the drawer and the summary tab stop carrying copy-pasted markup. The AI
prompt chips become DS::Button and the bills-index filter becomes
DS::SearchInput, both of which this PR already uses elsewhere for the
same shapes.

* Fix erb_lint whitespace offenses in bills views

* Address the post-ready review round

* Require a writable destination account and gate the feed on preview

* Reject an unresolvable declared account out loud

bb835b9793 feat: Super Admins can Delete Users and Modify Families/Groups (#2868)
* Add admin family management features and tests

- Implement FamiliesController with destroy action to delete unused families.
- Add localization for success and error messages related to family deletion.
- Create FamiliesControllerTest to ensure proper functionality of family deletion.
- Update UserPolicyTest to include permissions for super admins to delete users.
- Enhance UsersControllerTest with tests for user family management, including moving users between families and creating new families.

* feat(users): enhance user management with family transfer validation and improved delete warnings

* Simplify user management actions column and combine family options

Move heavy user edit forms from table rows into a DS::Popover action
menu, add role badges to the user column, combine family migration and
creation inputs with a Stimulus controller, enable self-family
transfer for super admins, and add safety guards against demoting the
last super admin in the system.

* feat: add authentication type pills to admin user index to display SSO and local login status

* Add set password feature for local users in admin user management

- Add password field in action popover for users with local password login
- Enforce all registration password criteria (min 8 chars, mixed case, digit, special char)
- Block simultaneous family and password updates with clear error
- Show descriptive success notifications (role, password, both, family)
- Ignore password param for SSO-only users
- Add comprehensive tests for all password validation paths

* Resolve DS Drift Patrol findings and CI scan failures

- Wrap auth-type pills in DS::Tooltip instead of native title= attribute

- Add actions.manage_user key to locale and drop redundant default: fallbacks

- Fix RuboCop style offenses in Admin::UsersController

- Update Brakeman ignore entry fingerprint for Admin::UsersController#user_params

* fix: update badge query to target DS::Pill structure

* Fix DS::Tooltip misuse hiding SSO auth-type pill in admin users view

The SSO pill was passed as a block to DS::Tooltip, which caused it to
render inside the hidden div[role="tooltip"] instead of being visible.
The text: option ("SSO Provider: ...") was also silently ignored because
tooltip_content returns content (the block) over @text when a block is
given.

Fix: render the SSO/Local+SSO pill directly as visible content and pass
DS::Tooltip with no block so text: is used as the tooltip popup. An info
icon now appears next to the pill and shows the provider name on hover.

Fixes test: Admin::UsersControllerTest#test_index_renders_auth_type_pills_for_local_and_sso_users

* Remove redundant default: fallback from role pill i18n lookup

All admin.users.index.roles.{guest,member,admin,super_admin} keys are
defined in the locale file and used elsewhere in the same view without
a default:. The fallback was redundant for every valid role and would
silently mask a missing or renamed key instead of raising in
development.

Drop the default: user.role.humanize argument so that any future
missing key surfaces immediately as I18n::MissingTranslationData.

* Revert unrelated JS/schema/split churn; fix transfer_to_family! default role

- Revert 62 JS files (Biome formatter and unrelated controller changes)
- Revert db/schema.rb dump churn (no new migrations in this branch)
- Revert unrelated split transaction view changes (edit/new.html.erb)
- Fix User#transfer_to_family! role default: role: role evaluates to nil
when omitted; use explicit self.role to read model attribute

Keeps the PR focused on user/family management (~18-20 files).

* Fix last login and session count in admin user management

Store last_login_at and sessions_count directly on the users table
so they remain accurate after a user logs out.

- Add migration to add last_login_at (datetime) and sessions_count
(integer, default 0) columns to users, with backfill from sessions
- Add counter_cache: :sessions_count to Session#belongs_to :user so
the count auto-increments/decrements on session create/destroy
- Add after_create callback on Session to stamp user.last_login_at
- Update Admin::UsersController to read both values from users table
instead of aggregating Session rows (which disappear on logout)

* Fix user management PR pending CI items

* Keep test current session after sign in

* Address PR review comments for user transfers

* refactor: update user removal label to "Delete User" and standardize component attribute naming

* Address PR Review Feedback for User Management

* test: Fix families and users controller tests for user management PR

* Limit PR 2868 schema diff

* Fix PR 2868 user management CI failures

buzzromainandClaude Opus 5 7176b4b521 fix(goals): stop the first goal being told about earmarks it has none of (#3216)
* fix(goals): stop the first goal being told about earmarks it has none of

Linking an account and leaving the amount blank shows "This account will
fund whatever is left after the other earmarks". On a first goal there are
no other earmarks — so the sentence points at something absent, and it is
where a user meets the word for the first time.

The row already carries `data-earmarked-by-others`, and it is zero in that
case. With the account to itself the hint now says so plainly, and
"earmark" appears only where earmarks actually exist — which lets the
context do the explaining instead of the vocabulary needing it.

Pinned server-side rather than in JS. The branch is a ternary; the failure
that matters is the form not handing over the second string, which does not
raise — the value reads as undefined and the line renders empty. There is
also a test that the two hints stay different, since identical copy would
leave the branch doing nothing and the first-time reader back where they
started.

Nothing runs `test/javascript` — no npm script, no CI step — so a test
there would have guarded nothing.

* fix(goals): tell an account claimed in full from one claimed by nobody

Review on #3216. The new "this account is yours alone" hint keyed off
`earmarked_by_other_goals`, which sums `allocated_amount` — and a
whole-account link carries nil, so it contributes zero. An account another
goal already claims in full therefore looked exactly like an unclaimed one.

The form promised the whole balance, and `whole_account_link_must_be_exclusive`
refused the blank allocation on submit. That is worse than the sentence
this PR set out to fix: it does not merely describe something absent, it
describes something the save then contradicts.

The row carries both readings now, because neither can be derived from the
other. `whole_account_claimed_by_other_goals?` asks the question the sum
cannot answer, and the two share the same row filter so the goal being
edited is excluded from both.

The two tests added here also move above the first `private`, same as on
`define_method`, which is public regardless — but they read as a mistake
sitting among the helpers.

3a4e92c6f8 feat(goals): call a reserve's amount what the rest of the app calls it (#3230)
* fix(goals): let a months-of-expenses reserve be created at all

The mode could not be used from the UI. The form makes the amount field
read-only in months mode — correctly, since the figure is derived — so the
form submits it empty. `target_amount` is required and positive, and
validations run before every save callback, so the derivation that fills it
never got the chance. Creation came back 422 with "can't be blank" on a
field the user is not allowed to type in.

Reproduced through the controller before changing anything: response 422,
no goal created.

Every existing test set `target_amount` explicitly, which is why the model
looked healthy — the gap was entirely on the path a user actually takes.

The derivation moves to `before_validation`, where a derived value belongs:
it is computed, then validated like any other. The dirty-state predicates
change with it, since `will_save_change_to_*` describes a save that has not
been decided on yet at that point.

* test(goals): move the new tests out of the private section

Review flagged them as never running. They do — Rails' `test` macro goes
through `define_method` from a class method, which defines a public method
whatever the surrounding visibility, and `-n` confirms Minitest picks both
up. Verified before touching anything: 2 runs, 7 assertions.

Moved anyway. My insertion targeted the file's last `private` rather than
its first, so they landed among the helper methods, where they read as a
mistake whether or not they behave like one — three separate reviewers have
now stopped on it.

* test(goals): put the page tests where nobody has to check they run

Review on #3229. The four page tests sat between `private` and a later
`public`, and every reader so far has stopped to work out whether they run.
They do — Rails' `test` macro calls `define_method` from a class method, and a
method defined that way is public whatever the surrounding visibility — but a
test whose behaviour has to be reasoned about is a test nobody trusts. They
move above the first `private`, where the question does not come up.

The second `private` goes with them: everything between it and the first was
already private, so it did nothing.

The fixed-amount test also gained the assertion it was missing. It named the
guard it was protecting and then checked only the status, so a 422 arriving
for any other reason would have kept it green. It now asserts the error the
form actually puts in front of the user; flipping that paragraph's condition
makes it fail, which is the point.

* feat(goals): settle on target balance, the term this kind of app uses

A reserve holds a balance rather than reaching an amount, and the page had
three words for that one idea: "floor" twice, "level" seven times, and a
field labelled "Target amount". The mode selector said "How the floor is
set" three lines above a field called "Target amount".

They are all replaced by **target balance** / **solde cible**.

That is the term this kind of application uses, and it keeps the noun the
rest of the page already leans on — "target" appears 55 times here. My
first pass invented "Level to hold", which was internally tidy and standard
nowhere: it fought 55 uses of a word that was not actually wrong. A target
need not be a finish line; a target balance is one you hold.

In months mode the balance also stops pretending to be a field. It is
worked out from spending, so it is shown as a result with a line saying
where it comes from — "Worked out when you save" on a goal that has none
yet, and the balance it currently holds when editing one. That removes the
`readOnly` toggle, which existed only to stop people typing into something
that should not have been an input.

Three smaller corrections while in the file:

- `exceeds_earmark` had the actor backwards in both languages. The account
does not earmark; the goal earmarks on the account.
- The French `not_active` was a comma splice, where the file already uses a
  colon for that construction.
- "se recomplète" is not standard French; a reserve "se reconstitue", and
"ce qui lui manque" reads better than "son manque".

A test asserts neither locale still says floor or niveau, so the three
vocabularies cannot quietly come back.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016GTNba5qE5NwzaHzbp27ye

* fix(goals): stop a hidden field blocking the reserve it belongs to

Replacing the read-only amount input with a hidden one left it `required`,
and a required input is still validated by the browser while `display: none`.
Submitting a months-based reserve was refused over a field the user could not
see, and could not have filled in either — the reserve became impossible to
create, which is the very thing the previous change set out to fix.

Disabled rather than hidden, so it is barred from validation and its value
stays out of the params, letting the derived figure land.

The field also has to come back when there is nothing to derive from: with no
spending history the model keeps whatever was typed, so the typed amount is
then the only way to set a target at all. The form now asks the family that
question up front and keeps the field where the answer is no.

* fix(goals): stop the label swap deleting the required marker

Review on #3230. `_money_field` puts the required-field asterisk inside the
label, in a span of its own. Swapping the wording with `textContent = label`
replaces every child of that label, so the asterisk went with it — and
`refresh()` runs on connect, so this fired on every goal form, one-off and
fixed reserve included, not only the derived-months case this PR is about.
Nothing put it back for the life of the page.

Only the wording changes now: the label's text node is rewritten and the span
left alone.

A system test covers it, because nothing short of a browser can. It fails on
the old code at the first assertion, before anything is clicked, which is
where the bug actually landed.

Also from review: the months derivation asked for the median twice, building
an IncomeStatement each time. It reads it once now — the method stays
un-memoized, which is what the refresh job needs.

4930aacdb8 feat: create merchant inline from transaction detail (#3106)
* feat: create merchant inline from transaction detail

Add a searchable "create or select" merchant combobox (DS::MerchantSelect,
mirroring the existing DS::TagSelect pattern) so a new FamilyMerchant can be
created directly from the transaction detail and new-transaction forms,
instead of requiring a trip to Settings > Merchants first.

FamilyMerchantsController#create now also responds to JSON so the combobox
can create-and-select a merchant without a full page reload.

* fix: address PR review feedback on merchant inline creation

- Handle Turbo validation failures in FamilyMerchantsController#create
  (missing format.turbo_stream branch raised ActionController::UnknownFormat)
- Guard connect() so disabled merchant selectors (no menu target) don't throw
- Select the exact match (or block form submission) on Enter when the
  create row is hidden
- Catch network/parse failures in createMerchant and show an error
- Localize the fallback "could not create merchant" error message
- Move the create button/error text outside the listbox and add
  aria-controls for accessibility
- Align create-option avatar size with the selected-value display

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix: keep created merchant option inside the listbox, move logo URL logic to component

- Add a dedicated listbox target and insert newly created merchant
options inside it (previously landed outside role="listbox" after
the create button was moved out in the prior review-fix commit)
- Move selected-merchant logo URL transformation out of the template
  into DS::MerchantSelect#selected_merchant_logo_url

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix: address maintainer review feedback on merchant inline creation

- Drop the explicit format.turbo_stream branch in the merchant creation
failure path: respond_to's turbo_stream matching forces the response
Content-Type to text/vnd.turbo-stream.html before the block runs, so
render :new, formats: [:html] only changed template lookup, not the
  Content-Type. Turbo's client then received a turbo-stream response
with no <turbo-stream> tags and silently did nothing. Leaving
turbo_stream undeclared lets Rails negotiate down to format.html,
which renders :new with the correct text/html type.
- Add truncate/shrink-0 classes to the merchant option partial's name
and avatar spans so they match the selected-value display once
updateSelectionDisplay clones them into the trigger button.
- Add a regression test simulating a Turbo form submission (Accept:
  turbo-stream, text/html) against a duplicate merchant name.

buzzromainandClaude Opus 5 74bb980271 feat(goals): a reserve measured in months of spending, not a fixed sum (#3180)
* feat(goals): a reserve measured in months of spending, not a fixed sum

"Six months of expenses" is the way people actually describe an emergency
fund, and it is a moving number: what covered six months last January
does not cover six months today. A reserve pinned to a figure typed once
drifts quietly out of date, and the drift always runs the wrong way — the
bar reads full while the cover shrinks.

`target_amount` stays the single source of truth, rewritten monthly by
RefreshMaintainedGoalTargetsJob. That is the whole architectural decision
here. An `effective_target_amount` would have been the obvious shape and
the wrong one: `remaining_amount`, `progress_percent`, `Goal.summary_for`,
the ring, the card and every future caller would each have had to learn
which target to read. None of them change.

The job refuses to write more often than it writes, on purpose:

- a family with no spending history yet computes a floor of zero, which
would both violate the `target_amount > 0` constraint and read to the
user as "your reserve is complete". The previous target stands.
- a figure identical to the current one is not rewritten, so a reserve
does not collect a fresh updated_at every month for nothing.
- a write that fails validation leaves the target alone and is recorded
through DebugLogEntry, not just the application log: a reserve frozen
at a stale floor is invisible to the user, who has no reason to suspect
  the number stopped moving.

The job reads the family's spending, not a member's view. IncomeStatement
falls back to Current.user when nobody says otherwise, which in a
background job is nobody — so the scope is the whole family, and the
number is the same whoever is looking. That is deliberate, and matches
how the rollover chain had to be pinned.

`target_months` is refused outside a months-mode reserve rather than
tolerated: a number nothing reads would sit there looking meaningful,
and the job would skip it for reasons no one could see.

schema.rb is hand-edited again — verified against a real migration on a
throwaway database, structures identical. The dumper on this Rails
version also rewrites every check-constraint cast, so the new constraint
is written in the file's existing style rather than the dumper's.

* fix(goals): pin the reserve calculation to the family, and get it right on day one

Review of the previous commit raised two things, and they are the same
thing seen from either end.

`IncomeStatement.new(family)` looked family-wide but was only so by
accident. Its constructor falls back to `Current.user`, and eligible_accounts
narrows to that user's accounts when one is present. The single caller was
a background job, where nobody is current — so the figure was correct for
the reason that it happened to be computed nowhere else. `target_amount`
belongs to the whole family: derived from a viewer's slice of the accounts,
it would have started moving with whoever last triggered it. This is the
same fallback that made the budget rollover carry depend on its reader.
The account scope is now passed explicitly, so the calculation is safe
whatever calls it.

That mattered immediately, because the second point required a new caller.
A reserve created as "6 months of expenses" had no floor computed until
the 1st of the following month: the user chose the mode, guessed an
amount, and lived with a wrong target for up to a month. The feature's
first impression was its least convincing moment. The floor is now
computed on creation, and whenever the mode or the number of months
changes — but never on an unrelated save, so the monthly job keeps owning
the cadence and renaming a goal cannot silently move a financial figure.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01DJ1npaGEHr6t2HW1rYZdt4

* fix(goals): keep a months-based floor derived, and in the right currency

Review on #3180.

The median comes back in FAMILY currency and `target_amount` is stored in
the GOAL's, so a EUR reserve in a USD family read a 3,000 dollar floor as
3,000 euros — and rewrote it that way every month, silently. Converted
now, and when there is no rate for the day the previous target stands:
the same safe failure the method already took for a family with no
spending history, because a stale floor beats a wrong one.

The callback also skipped a target_amount edit, so the form could persist
an arbitrary figure under a "six months of expenses" label until the next
monthly refresh. It runs on that edit now and overwrites it — and when
there is nothing to derive from, restores what the reserve already had
rather than accepting the typed figure.

The form marks the field read-only in that mode. The model does not depend
on it, but a field that silently discards what you type is worse than one
you cannot type into.

b6029c1e28 feat(goals): show what each account still has room to earmark (#3166)
* feat(goals): show what each account still has room to earmark

`Account#free_to_earmark` has existed, unused, since earmarks shipped —
its own comment said the UI was a follow-up. This is that follow-up, and
the wording is the substance of it.

It does not say "over-allocated". `free_to_earmark` is negative for as
long as the saving is unfinished, which is the normal condition of anyone
with goals in progress: a 6,000 account backing two goals of 5,000 gives
−4,000 and is a perfectly correct setup. A warning phrased as a fault
would fire permanently and teach people to ignore it. The message states
the consequence instead — the goals come to X for a balance of Y, so they
progress pro rata — and is never styled as an error.

The trap is the goal being edited. `goal_earmarked_total` counts every
goal including that one, so reopening a goal that earmarks 5,000 on a
6,000 account shows 1,000 of headroom, and re-entering the same 5,000
trips a message about a setup the user has not touched.
`earmarked_by_other_goals` excludes it, and only when it is persisted —
a goal being created has nothing to exclude.

The pool is read once per render and passed down, never per account: the
form lists every fundable account the user can see. A test counts the
query and fails at two.

The Stimulus controller is its own, with 3 targets. goal_form_controller
is at 10 against the 7 the project guidelines suggest, needs none of this
state, and is untouched.

* fix(goals): read the typed amount strictly, and format it in the app's locale

Addresses review feedback on #3166.

`Number.parseFloat` accepts prefixes, so "500abc" became 500, and the bare
comma-to-dot swap turned a thousands-separated "1,500" into 1.5. Either way the
preview described an amount the user had not typed — and the second case is a
habit from another locale, not a typo, so it would have gone unnoticed. The
value now has to match a complete number before anything is computed.

`Intl.NumberFormat(undefined, ...)` let the BROWSER pick the locale, so a
French user on an English-locale browser read separators and symbol placement
matching nothing else on the page. The amounts cannot be formatted server-side
— they change with every keystroke — so the server passes `I18n.locale` and the
client applies it. That puts the decision where the rest of the app's
formatting already lives.

* fix(goals): let the assistant create a second goal on a claimed account

Review on #3166. The function always built whole-account links and had no
way to express an earmark, so once exclusivity landed, asking for a second
goal on an account another goal already claimed came back as a bare
`validation_failed` — while the account list still advertised the account
as available. A common request became an unexplained refusal.

Three changes, and the list is the important one: it now says what is left
on each account and which are claimed in full, because the assistant
reasons from that list and had no way to know otherwise.

`earmarks` is an optional map of account name to amount, so the assistant
can reserve a slice rather than the whole balance. Accounts left out keep
the previous behaviour and take whatever is spare.

The refusal is named before the save — `account_claimed_in_full`, with the
account names — so the assistant gets a reason it can act on and ask about,
rather than a validation message it can only relay. Checked after the
currency check, which is the more fundamental of the two.

* test(goals): move the spend tests back out of the private section

The merge of `main` into this branch landed #3176's tests between
`count_pool_queries` and the helpers below it, inside the `private`
section and at the wrong indentation. `ci / lint` has been failing on
`Layout/IndentationConsistency` since.

They still ran — `test` is a class method, so `private` does not hide them
— which is why the unit job stayed green while lint went red.

buzzromainandClaude Opus 5 6d7ca3584c feat(goals): reserves you maintain, not goals you finish (#3167)
* feat(goals): reserves you maintain, not goals you finish

An emergency fund is not a goal you reach and close — it is a level you
hold, and every withdrawal is a shortfall to make good. Sure treated it
like anything else: at 100% it offered to close it, which would release
the very money being set aside; a withdrawal dropped the bar with no
sign that anything was owed.

`kind` (added by the lifecycle lot without behavior) now means something.
A maintained goal is `funded` or `depleted`, never `reached` — sitting at
its floor is a steady state, not an achievement to file away. `complete`
is refused by an AASM guard rather than merely hidden, so no path can
release a reserve's earmark.

Two ordering traps, both of which would have made a drained reserve
invisible:

`ACTIVE_DISPLAY_STATUS_RANK` falls back to 4 for any status it does not
know, so an unranked `:depleted` would sort a drained emergency fund
below everything else — the exact opposite of what it means. It ranks
alongside `:behind` now, and `:funded` sorts near the end with the goals
that need nothing.

`behind_pace?` excludes reserves. `monthly_target_amount` and `pace` both
derive from `target_date`, which a reserve does not have, so "save X/month
to catch up" would be advice about a deadline that does not exist.

The form leads with the choice, since it changes what the rest of it
means, and hides the target date for a reserve rather than disabling it —
a hidden field cannot submit a stale value that would then drive a pace.
The card states the shortfall, which is exactly `remaining_amount`. The
panel that offers a one-off its closing action tells a reserve it is
intact and offers nothing, because there is nothing to do.

Scope: fixed targets only. Targets expressed in months of expenses, the
monthly refresh job, and the depletion insight are the next two PRs.

* fix(goals): let a reserve behave like one everywhere it is shown

Addresses review feedback on #3167.

The kind selector never hid the target date. `data-controller="goal-kind"`
sat on the selector div while its `dateField` target is a sibling, so
`dateFieldTargets` came back empty and picking "Reserve to maintain" left the
deadline on screen and submittable. The controller moves to the form wrapper,
which encloses both.

Hiding a field is not enforcement, so the model now clears `target_date` for a
maintained goal. Normalising rather than rejecting: the field is hidden, and an
error about something the user cannot see is not actionable. A date could only
arrive through a conversion or a crafted request, and either way a stored
deadline would drive a pace the reserve does not have.

A completed goal could be switched to `maintained` from the edit form. It then
sat in a released state — one that has handed its earmark back — while the show
page promised its money stays reserved, and `complete` for reserves is refused
precisely to prevent that state. `kind` is now locked while released: reopen
first.

Reserves counted against the "goals on track" tile. Their statuses are
`funded`/`depleted`, which match none of the exclusions in `tracked_total`, so
they could never reach the numerator and a family with one reserve read
"0 of 1 on track" for a goal working exactly as intended.

Two more places still spoke of pace to something that has none. `pace_line` is
suppressed for reserves on the card, and a depleted reserve gets its own panel
before the projection card — the projection's summary, catch-up line and colour
are all built from a deadline. What a drained reserve needs is the number the
projection cannot show: how much is missing from the floor.

The French celebration copy read "Votre réserve est à son niveau", which never
says which level.

Each guard was confirmed load-bearing by removing it and watching its test
fail. bin/rails test: 6962 runs, 28003 assertions, 0 failures. RuboCop,
erb_lint and Brakeman clean.

Left open deliberately: extracting the show page's lifecycle panel into a
ViewComponent. The guideline behind it is right, but the refactor is wider than
this round of fixes and belongs on its own.

* fix(goals): finish teaching the status consumers about reserves

Second round of review feedback on #3167: two consumers still had no branch
for the reserve statuses.

`ProgressRingComponent#percent_text_class` styled only `:reached` as success,
so a funded reserve — a floor the user is holding exactly as intended — fell
back to the neutral colour and read as unfinished.

`status_callout_context` had no `:depleted` branch, so a drained reserve showed
no callout at all: the one status that most deserves a line of explanation was
the only one saying nothing. It now names the shortfall.

`:funded` deliberately keeps no callout — a reserve at its level has nothing to
report, and the celebration panel already says so. A test pins that, so the
silence reads as a decision rather than another missing branch.

* fix(goals): lock the kind on the state the goal is actually in

Addresses review feedback on #3167, on the guard that landed in c1c7f4f7.

`kind_locked_while_released` read the in-memory `state`, so a single write
setting `state: "active"` alongside the new kind saw the goal as already
reopened and waved it through.

The end state looks legitimate — active and maintained — which is why the hole
is easy to miss. It is not: the direct write skipped the `reopen` transition,
and with it `thaw_completed_amount!`. `completed_amount` survived, so
`current_balance` returned that frozen snapshot forever on a live reserve.
Reopening has to be its own gesture, because it is the gesture that thaws.

Now reads `state_in_database`, with a regression test on the combined write
asserting both that it is refused and that the frozen amount is untouched.

Confirmed load-bearing by reading the attribute again and watching it fail.

* fix(goals): send an empty reserve to the shortfall panel, not the empty state

Addresses the last review thread on #3167.

The `maintained?` branch sat after the zero-balance/zero-pace one, so a
brand-new reserve matched the generic "make your first transfer" card. I had
put it there on purpose, thinking a reserve with nothing in it wanted the
first-transfer nudge. The review is right that it does not: it is still a
reserve short of its floor, and the shortfall panel says so with the saved,
target and missing amounts, where the generic card says none of them.

Ordering it after also meant evaluating `pace` on a goal that has no pace to
evaluate.

* fix(goals): stop a paused goal outranking a reserve that is whole

Review on #3175.

`:funded` and paused both ranked 3 in `active_display_sort`, so the tie
broke on name and a paused goal called "Alpha" sat above a reserve called
"Zeta" that was fully funded — the list saying the paused one wanted
attention more. Paused now ranks behind every status, which is what the
comment above the table already claimed.

The seven panels on the goal page were hand-rolled repetitions of
`DS::Card`'s exact shell, two of them adjacent and identical. They render
through the primitive now, so their surface styling cannot drift apart.

* refactor(goals): move the lifecycle panel decision out of the template

Review on #3167 and #3180.

Which panel a goal gets is a lifecycle question with five answers, and the
template worked it out inline from `completed?`, `maintained?`, `one_off?`,
`status` and `may_complete?` — five predicates deep in ERB where the
ordering between them was load-bearing and nothing said so.

`Goals::LifecyclePanelComponent` answers it in Ruby and the template
renders the answer. The markup moves across unchanged, keys made absolute
because a relative `t(".x")` in a component resolves against the
component's own path rather than the page these strings belong to.

The order is now stated once, where it can be read and tested:
`:reserve_shortfall` before `:empty`, because a brand-new reserve sits at
zero balance and zero pace and the generic "make your first transfer" card
would otherwise swallow it.

Closing from the panel now confirms, as the header menu already did.
Completing releases the goal's earmarked money, and the panel offered that
in one click. Both go through `goal_complete_confirm` rather than building
the wording twice — two copies drifting apart is how one ends up
describing the wrong consequence.

* fix(goals): refresh the pace suggestion when the deadline is cleared

Assigning `input.value = ""` fires no event, so `goal-form#suggestedChanged`
never ran: selecting "Reserve to maintain" cleared the date but left the
monthly pace suggestion on screen, derived from a deadline the goal no
longer has.

* fix(goals): let a depleted reserve look as urgent as it is

Review on #3179 and #3180.

`Goal#needs_attention?` names the pair of statuses that mean "this one wants
looking at" — a goal off its pace and a reserve below its floor. Three
places were spelling that out and the Plan hub's progress bar had fallen
behind, so a depleted reserve got a neutral bar an inch from its own amber
status pill: the same goal reported as needing attention and not.

`projection_summary` told a funded reserve it had "hit the target, no
projection needed". A reserve holds a level; there is no finish line to
project toward and no target to have hit. It does not reach that panel
today — the shortfall and celebration panels catch it first — but the
method reads as the single source of truth for that subtitle and should not
hand a caller a one-off's wording.

The legend swatches are bordered spans now rather than inline SVG, and the
label takes `text-xs` instead of an arbitrary 11px. The projection swatch
keeps the chart's own colour variables in an inline style rather than
`border-success` / `border-warning`: the chart hard-codes green-600 and
yellow-600, and a legend whose colour does not match the line it describes
is worse than the markup it would save.

The Plan-card test counts warning bars rather than matching one. A fixture
goal is already off its pace, so the markup is on the page either way and a
presence check passed without the fix.

3d6a8d8b6e feat(budgets): move money between envelopes in one gesture (#3164)
* feat(budgets): carry a category's unspent budget into the next month

A budget category resets to zero every month, so anything non-monthly
(annual insurance, a holiday fund, car servicing) has no place to
accumulate. Two columns on budget_categories turn a category into a real
envelope: `rollover_enabled`, opt-in per category and off by default, and
`rolled_over_amount`, the surplus carried in from the previous month.

  rolled_over(n) = rollover_enabled
                   ? max(0, budgeted(n-1) + rolled_over(n-1) - actual(n-1))
                   : 0

v1 floors at zero: only a surplus carries, never an overspend.

The amount is materialized, not derived. March depends on February which
depends on January, so computing it on read would walk the whole chain on
every budget render. Budget::RolloverCalculator recomputes it in a single
forward pass and writes once via upsert_all, from Budget.find_or_bootstrap
and from BudgetCategoriesController#update -- allocations and the toggle
being the only inputs. No Transaction hook: a past month's actuals can
change after the fact, and the page load is a fine moment to catch up.

Scope kept deliberately narrow. `Budget#budgeted_spending`,
`#allocated_spending` and `#available_to_allocate` are untouched -- the top
of the budget page still answers "I planned to spend X, I've allocated Y".
The carry is per-envelope information, surfaced as `Budget#total_rolled_over`
and never folded into those totals.

What the carry does change is consumption: `available_to_spend`,
`percent_of_budget_spent` and `budgeted?` all count it, or a category funded
entirely by rollover would read as unbudgeted and get an alert pill while it
still had money left. `display_budgeted_spending` stays the month's
allocation alone -- the card shows the two figures side by side.

Details worth knowing:

- A parent's carry is net of its ring-fenced subcategories'. A parent's
allocation already contains theirs and its actuals already contain their
spending; those subcategories carry their own surplus, so counting the
parent's raw leftover would roll the same money over twice.
- Chains never mix: household with household, a member's personal budgets
with their own. A missing month is a gap the carry crosses, not a month
  budgeted at zero.
- The carry stops at a currency change. sync_budget_categories stamps
categories with family.currency at sync time while a budget freezes its
own at creation, so the guard is on budget_category.currency -- the unit
the amount is actually denominated in.
- upsert_all writes with `update_only`, so a concurrent request that moves
an allocation between our read and our write doesn't get it clobbered by
  the stale value we loaded.
- copy_from! copies the toggle, never the amount.

Cost for families that never turn it on: one EXISTS query per budget page
load, measured, including on the reports page which also bootstraps a
budget. With rollover on, the walk starts at the first month that uses it
rather than at the two-year history bound.

* fix(budgets): pin the household rollover chain to a viewer-independent scope

Addresses review feedback on #3143.

The household budget (user_id NULL) has no owner to scope actuals by, and
`IncomeStatement` falls back to `Current.user` when nobody says otherwise.
The calculator therefore computed one shared `rolled_over_amount` through
whichever member happened to load the page, and each viewer overwrote the
other's number -- last one wins, and a member could infer spending in
accounts they cannot see. `Budget#income_statement_accounts` can now be
overridden, and the calculator pins the household chain to the whole
family so the shared row holds one number. Personal chains are untouched:
they already scope to their owner's accounts and were always deterministic.

`copy_from!` runs after `find_or_bootstrap` has already recomputed the
chain, so copying `rollover_enabled` left the target sitting on a zero carry
until the next page load. It now recomputes before its transaction commits.

The toggle tooltip described the wrong direction. `incoming_carry` checks
the flag of the month being computed, so the toggle governs what that month
*receives* from the previous one, not what it sends forward. Reworded in
English and French.

The concurrency regression test now drives its concurrent write through
`Budget#budget_category_actual_spending`, a public seam, instead of stubbing
a private method of the calculator from another class's test suite.

Each guard was confirmed load-bearing by reverting it and watching its test
fail. bin/rails test: 6939 runs, 0 failures.

* fix(budgets): let the rollover choice stand instead of resetting each month

`rollover_enabled` lives on budget_categories, one row per (budget,
category), so a month created by `find_or_bootstrap` was born with the flag
off. Switching rollover on for Vacations in January and simply opening
February dropped January's surplus on the floor -- the user had to re-arm
the toggle every month, or go through "copy from previous budget". The
feature's headline case, a category funded 50/month accumulating over a
year, did not work as shipped.

New rows now inherit the flag from the last initialized budget of the same
owner, the same chain the carry itself walks. Turning the toggle off on a
given month still overrides it from there on, so the per-month escape hatch
survives.

The flag stays on budget_categories rather than moving to Category, which is
where comparable products (Monarch, Copilot, Lunch Money) put it. Categories
here are family-wide while budgets are per owner, so a category-level flag
would force one member's rollover choice onto everyone's personal budget and
onto the household budget. budget_categories is the only table carrying both
the category and the owner. A regression test covers that isolation.

Naming follows the same products: the toggle reads "Rollover", the noun, not
"Roll over", the verb -- which also matches `rollover_enabled` and the
calculator. Both tooltips now describe the property rather than a direction
("keep this category's unspent money from one month to the next"). The
previous wording named the direction the flag actually gates, incoming,
which is accurate but the opposite of the mental model every comparable
product installs; describing the property is true under either reading. The
French card string switched to "+%{amount} de report" so it no longer has to
agree in number with a currency noun it cannot see.

bin/rails test: 6942 runs, 0 failures. The inheritance was confirmed
load-bearing by removing it and watching its tests fail.

* fix(budgets): make a rollover opt-out stop the money in both directions

`incoming_carry` gates what a month receives, but `leftover_for` computed
what it sends regardless of the toggle. So switching rollover off for one
month and back on the next handed the opted-out month's whole allocation to
the month after: the surplus the user meant to forfeit reappeared a month
later. Reproduced at 100, where 0 was expected.

The outgoing carry is now gated on the same flag, which also skips the
actuals lookup for opted-out rows. "Off" now means this envelope does not
roll over, in either direction -- the reading the standing toggle and the
tooltip both promise.

Found by CodeRabbit on #3143. It only became wrong with the standing-choice
inheritance in 2b1cff5a: while the flag was per-month, "off" plausibly meant
"do not accept", and the previous month's surplus reaching a re-armed month
was defensible. Once the flag reads as a property of the envelope, it isn't.

the guard and watching the new three-month test fail.

* fix(budgets): serialize rollover recomputes for a chain with an advisory lock

`recompute!` reads the whole chain into memory, walks it, then upserts.
Nothing made that atomic: two overlapping recomputes for the same
(family, owner) chain could both load it, and the one that started first
could land its now-stale `rolled_over_amount` on top of the other's.
`update_only` keeps an upsert off allocations, but the carry is the very
column this writes, so nothing protected it. The wrong value survived until
the next page load recomputed it.

The read-then-write now runs inside a transaction holding
`pg_advisory_xact_lock` keyed on the chain, and the walk was extracted so
the guard is legible. The cheap `first_relevant_budget_date` check still
runs first and unlocked, so families that never enabled rollover pay one
query and never contend; the date is re-read under the lock because the
chain may have moved while waiting. The key names the (family, owner) pair,
so a household recompute and a member's personal recompute don't queue
behind each other.

This reverses the spec's "no advisory lock" guidance, at the request of an
upstream maintainer reviewing #3143.

On the test: under transactional fixtures a second connection cannot see the
data, so a true two-connection interleaving test isn't practical here. The
regression test asserts what is observable in-process -- the lock is taken,
it is taken before the write, and two chains produce different keys.
Removing `lock_chain!` makes it fail.

* feat(api): expose the rollover toggle and carried amount on budget categories

`available_to_spend` started counting the carry in this branch, so an API
client could receive a category budgeted at 500 with 700 available and
nothing in the payload to account for the difference. The two fields that
explain it are now serialized.

`rollover_enabled` ships with the stored fields, so the summary rendered by
the index action carries it. `rolled_over_amount` sits with the derived
amounts behind `include_derived_amounts`, next to the `available_to_spend`
it accounts for -- the index deliberately omits both, unchanged.

Schemas updated in spec/swagger_helper.rb (BudgetCategory and
BudgetCategorySummary), docs regenerated with rswag, and behavioural
coverage added to the Minitest controller test: the show action returns the
toggle and the carry, and the index returns the toggle without the derived
amount.

Note on docs/api/openapi.yaml: 64 of the 72 added lines are not from this
change. The committed file had drifted from what rswag generates -- specs
for the merchant CSV import and transfer source fees had been added without
regenerating -- and the mandated `rake rswag:specs:swaggerize` picks them up.
Verified by regenerating on a clean tree, where those 64 lines appear on
their own. Hand-trimming them back out would leave the generated file not
matching its generator, so they are included; happy to split them into their
own commit if a maintainer prefers.

* feat(budgets): move money between envelopes in one gesture

Overspending one category and covering it from another meant editing two
allocations by hand, with no atomicity: the budget could sit
over-allocated between the two saves, and a failure left it there.

`BudgetCategory.move_allocation!` does both sides in one transaction.
Deliberately no new table — v1 stores the resulting allocations and keeps
no history of the move itself.

Refused, each with its own localized message: an amount at or below zero,
more than the source has, two categories from different budgets, a
category and itself, "Uncategorized" (synthesized on read, it has no row),
and — the one that is not obvious — a category and its own direct parent
or child. `sync_parent_budgeted_spending!` rebuilds a parent from the sum
of its children plus its reserve, so money moved across that boundary
would be re-derived away and the total would not be conserved.

Lock order is the delicate part. `update_budgeted_spending!` locks its own
row and, for a subcategory, its parent, so two simultaneous moves in
opposite directions could each hold what the other needs. Every row the
operation will touch — both ends and their parents — is locked up front by
ascending id.

The rollover chain is recomputed by the caller AFTER the move commits,
never inside it. `Budget::RolloverCalculator` takes a transaction-scoped
advisory lock, and taking it while these row locks are held would invert
the order `#update` already established: one request holding rows and
waiting for the advisory lock, another holding the advisory lock and
waiting for those rows. A model test pins that `move_allocation!` never
recomputes on its own.

The recompute is not optional. A move is neutral for
`Budget#allocated_spending`, but not for the carry: `leftover_for` is
budgeted + rolled_over − actual, so moving money changes what both
envelopes hand to the next month.

UI is one native `<dialog>` shared by the page rather than one per row,
opened from a discreet button on each envelope that has something to give.
The Stimulus controller has 6 targets and disables the options the server
would refuse anyway, so an impossible move is never offered.

* fix(budgets): use the design-system dialog, and stop a parent lending its children's money

Addresses review feedback on #3164.

**The move dialog was hand-rolled.** `DS::Dialog` already exists and already
carries focus trapping, Escape, click-outside, focus restore and the
design-system chrome; rewriting those by hand is how they end up subtly wrong,
and the guidelines say to reach for the primitive first. It keeps the
one-dialog-for-the-page shape — the list holds dozens of rows and a per-row
dialog would be dozens of copies of the same markup — via `auto_open: false`
and `disable_frame: true`.

**It also stayed open after a successful move,** still showing the previous
source and amount. It now closes on `turbo:submit-end`, and only when Turbo
reports success: closing on submit alone would hide the reason a move was
refused.

**Submit was enabled with nowhere to send.** A lone envelope, or one whose only
peers are its own parent and children, offered a button whose only outcome was
a server error. The form now says so and disables itself.

**A parent could send away its children's money.** `budgeted_spending` on a
parent already contains its individually funded subcategories' allocations, so
comparing against the gross figure let a move spend what a child had
ring-fenced. The parent dropped below the sum of its children, and the next
edit to any child rebuilt it — the money appeared to teleport back. The
movable amount for a parent is now its own reserve.

`test "moving the whole allocation is allowed, moving one cent more is not"`
moved a parent's gross amount and passed: it encoded that bug. It now uses a
leaf as its source, where "the whole allocation" is the whole of it, and the
parent boundary gets its own pair of tests.

**A negative carry could be written.** The calculator floors it at zero but
writes through `upsert_all`, and a negative `rolled_over_amount` would quietly
subtract from `available_to_spend`. Now a CHECK constraint, verified by
replaying the migration on a throwaway database.

* fix(budgets): carry the rollover choice into months already open, and mend the API schema

Addresses the remaining review feedback on #3164.

**Enabling rollover skipped months that already existed.** Inheritance runs
when `sync_budget_categories` creates a missing row, so it only ever reaches
months that do not exist yet. A user who opened March, then went back to
January and switched rollover on, left March sitting at `false` — created
before the choice was made, so it had nothing to inherit — and the chain died
there.

The toggle is a standing choice about the envelope, which is what
`inherited_rollover_flags` already says: "turning it off on a given month still
overrides it from there on." Applying the choice forward closes the hole
without a tri-state column. Later months take the most recent decision, which
is the one the user just made; earlier months keep theirs.

**`rollover_enabled` was emitted but not required.** The shared partial always
sends it in both list and detail responses. Added to the `required` list of
`BudgetCategorySummary` and `BudgetCategory` in `spec/swagger_helper.rb`, then
regenerated.

**`type: file` is not valid OpenAPI 3.0.3.** A Swagger 2.0 leftover in the
merchants import spec, which generated clients that send nothing the controller
can read. It surfaced now because this branch is the first to regenerate
`openapi.yaml` since it was written — `origin/main` has no occurrence of it.
Spelled as a string with `format: binary` instead.

Regeneration produced a four-line diff, so the checked-in document was already
in sync otherwise.

* fix(budgets): stop the API serving a carry the web pages would have refreshed

Addresses the remaining P1 on #3164, and its duplicate on #3143.

The objection was that nothing recomputes when a sync, an edit or a
recategorisation changes spending in an earlier month. On the web that is by
design and measured: every surface showing the carry goes through
`Budget.find_or_bootstrap`, so it recomputes on the way in, and the alternative
— recomputing on every transaction write — buys nothing a page load does not
already give.

The API is the case that argument does not cover, and the review was right
about it. `Api::V1::BudgetCategoriesController` reads `rolled_over_amount`
straight off the column, so it was the one surface that could serve a stale
carry indefinitely, until somebody happened to open the budget page.

It now recomputes the chains it is about to read. A read that writes is a
smell, but it is the same bargain the budget page already makes, applied to the
surface that was missed: the walk is per family, and the calculator's leading
EXISTS makes it a single query that writes nothing for a family that never
turned rollover on.

Also from review: the move dialog's amount field allowed `min: 0` while
`move_allocation!` rejects zero as non-positive. Browser validation now matches
the server contract, at the currency step.

bin/rails test: 6970 runs, 28025 assertions, 0 failures. Confirmed load-bearing
by removing the callback and watching the new API test fail. RuboCop, erb_lint
and Brakeman clean.

f0a0013da9 fix(charts): round series values to the currency's display precision (#3091)
* fix(charts): round chart values to the currency's display precision

Charts are drawn from the serialized amounts, not from the formatted strings,
so a sub-unit residue plotted as a visible move between two points that both
read $0.00, and the trend between them reported a change. Round in
`Series#as_json` so the series values stay exact for insights, goals and the
assistant.

Also hide the percentage when the previous value is zero, since that makes it
infinite.

* fix(charts): round the two payloads that bypass Series#as_json

`NetWorthBreakdownSeriesBuilder` builds its payload by hand, so the reports
chart never went through the rounding added in `Series#as_json` and still
plotted raw amounts: adjacent points printing the same value rendered a
visible move, and the tooltip it inherits reported a change between them.

`Series#trend` had the same gap on the server side. It is rendered right above
the chart by `UI::Account::Chart` and by the reports summary, so an account
going from 0 to a sub-cent residue showed a coloured $0.00 change next to a
flat line.

Rounding the trend can make a previously finite percentage infinite, so guard
the three views that render `percent_formatted` without checking, as
`shared/_trend_change` already does.

Juan José MataandClaude Opus 5 47525d7a73 Add expandable dialog for debug log table (#3051)
* feat(debug): add expandable view to the debug event log

The /settings/debug table packs seven columns of long-form diagnostics
into one row, so messages, context IDs, and metadata are all cramped and
hard to read.

Borrows the expand pattern from the dashboard cashflow chart (#739):
hovering a log row reveals a DS::Button icon trigger (always visible
below `lg`, where there is no hover state, and on keyboard focus) that
opens the entry in a roomy DS::Dialog. The expanded view lays the entry
out vertically — level/category as DS::Pill badges, the full message,
source, each context ID labelled, and pretty-printed metadata in a
scrollable block.

- Extract the row into a `_log_entry` partial now that it carries the
  trigger and its dialog.
- Add a generic `expandable` Stimulus controller that opens the <dialog>
inside its scope, since the trigger sits outside the DS--dialog
  controller's scope.
- Add `Settings::DebugsHelper` for the level-to-pill-tone mapping and the
context field list, keeping the logic out of the template.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RRNRykqxBvgWwA2Wm8KiXH

* refactor(debug): expand the whole log table, not individual rows

The expand affordance belongs on the table card, matching the dashboard
cashflow chart it is modelled on: one trigger in the card's header strip
reopens the entire log in a near full-width dialog, where all seven
columns finally have room.

- Extract the table into a `_log_table` partial so the inline card and
the expanded dialog render the same markup, and give its header
`sticky top-0` — inert inline, useful once the expanded copy scrolls.
- Drop the per-row trigger, its detail dialog, and the `Settings::DebugsHelper`
and locale keys that only existed to support them.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RRNRykqxBvgWwA2Wm8KiXH

* fix(debug): reveal expand button on coarse pointers, lift width to DS

Addresses review feedback on the expandable debug log table.

- The expand trigger was hidden by `lg:opacity-0` and only revealed by
hover, so a touch-only device wide enough to hit `lg` — a large tablet —
had no way to discover it. Viewport width is the wrong proxy for hover
capability; switch to the shape the dashboard insights feed already
uses: hidden by default, revealed by hover, focus, or `pointer-coarse`.
- The `!w-[96vw] max-w-[1650px]` expanded-dialog shape was hand-rolled at
the callsite in two places. Lift it into `DS::Dialog::WIDTHS[:expanded]`
and use it from both the debug log and the dashboard cashflow chart, so
the arbitrary values live in the design system rather than in views. The
emitted class string is unchanged in both cases.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01RRNRykqxBvgWwA2Wm8KiXH

* fix(ds): stop the expanded dialog overflowing narrow viewports

`!w-[96vw]` applied at every breakpoint, but `dialog_inner_classes` only
drops its `mx-3` gutter at `lg`. Below that the panel is 96vw + 24px of
margins inside a dialog box that is narrower than the viewport — `vw`
counts the scrollbar, the dialog's percentage-based box does not — so the
panel is clipped on both sides. Flex-shrink cannot absorb it either, once
nowrap content (the debug log's timestamp and context cells) raises the
panel's min-content width.

Scope the 96vw to `lg` and up, where the gutter is gone. Below `lg` the
base `w-full` + `mx-3` already fits, which is what every other dialog
width does.

Measured in Chromium against Tailwind 4.1.8 output, panel clipped per side:

  viewport 320 375 390 768 1024 1400
  !w-[96vw] 12.6 11.5 11.2 0 0 0
  lg:!w-[96vw] 0 0 0 0 0 0

Widths at 768/1024/1400 are unchanged (706/978/1344px).

Andrew B c9fbfd9f71 fix(chat): make the assistant response timeout configurable (#2910)
* fix(chat): make the assistant response timeout configurable (#2893)

Self-hosted users running a local model report the chat failing with
"assistant not available" after 90 seconds even though the model
generates a reply and tokens are billed.

Three timeouts are involved and only one was configurable:

  - OPENAI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT (60s) — already settable, not the blocker.
  - The browser watchdog in chat_controller.js (90s) — hardcoded, and
    this is what actually fires.
  - Chat::UNDELIVERED_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT (60s) — a constant, so raising
the client value alone would not have helped.

The watchdog cannot be avoided by streaming here: custom
OpenAI-compatible providers route through generic_chat_response, which
forces synchronous calls, so nothing renders until the whole generation
finishes. Time-to-last-token has to beat the deadline.

Adds AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT (ENV > Setting > 90s default, floored at 30s),
exposed on the Self-Hosting settings page and passed to the Stimulus
controller at all three mount points — show, index and the sidebar in
the application layout, each of which declares data-controller="chat"
independently.

The server floor is derived from the same value but kept 10s below it.
report_timeout answers 200 whether or not it acted and the client only
retries on a non-ok response, so a floor at or above the client value
would let clock skew strand a pending bubble permanently.

Also guards AssistantMessage#append_text!. The watchdog runs in the web
process while the job holds its own copy of the message, so a job
finishing after the bubble was destroyed or demoted would silently
resurrect it alongside the error the user was already shown.

* fix(chat): let the watchdog retry when report_timeout declines

`report_timeout` answered 200 whether or not `handle_undelivered_response!`
acted. The Stimulus watchdog only stops retrying a URL once it sees a 2xx, so
a declined report was treated as final.

That stranded the bubble whenever the client's clock ran more than
SERVER_TIMEOUT_GRACE ahead of the server's: the watchdog posts at its own
timeout, the server sees a message younger than its floor and no-ops, and
nothing ever retries. The bubble spins forever with no error and no Retry.

Answering 409 instead lets the next 5s tick try again, so any amount of skew
costs retries rather than a stuck chat. The grace window stays as an
optimisation to keep those retries rare, not as the correctness mechanism.

* docs(chat): correct the AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT ordering guidance

The docs, locale string and examples all said to keep OPENAI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT at
or above AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT. That is backwards.

The two limits span different things. OPENAI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT bounds each HTTP
call to the model on its own; AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT covers the whole turn and its
clock starts when the message is queued, so it also absorbs Sidekiq queue time
and, for a tool-using turn, two model calls plus the tool run between them.

Keeping the chat timeout the larger of the two means a slow model surfaces the
specific HTTP timeout error rather than a generic "no response", and the job
stops instead of running on after the chat has given up. The shipped 60/90
defaults already had this ordering; only the guidance was wrong.

compose.example.ai.yml gets 300/660 so the Ollama example can actually complete
a tool-using turn.

* fix(chat): claim the pending bubble atomically before appending

append_text! read the row's status and then saved, leaving a window in which
the watchdog could demote the row to `failed` between the two. The late
content would then land on a bubble the user had already been told failed,
flipping it back to `complete`.

Replaces the read with a conditional UPDATE that only succeeds while the row is
still pending, so the check and the state change cannot be separated.

Uses a conditional UPDATE rather than with_lock because append_text! is called
once per chunk on the streaming path; a row lock and transaction per chunk would
be far more expensive. The claim only runs on the first append, since later ones
are no longer pending.

* test(chat): isolate AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT from the environment

Chat.response_timeout reads ENV ahead of Setting, so stubbing only the Setting
left the assertions at the mercy of the environment they run in. With
AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT=45 exported, five of these tests failed — the default,
floor and grace assertions were all silently measuring the env value.

Adds a with_setting_timeout helper that stubs the Setting and clears the
variable together, and switches the controller tests to stub
Chat.undelivered_response_timeout directly, since what they care about is the
resolved floor rather than how it was configured.

Both files now pass with or without AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT set.

* docs(chat): size AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT for chained tool calls

The guidance assumed a tool-using turn costs two model calls. #2767 landed
after this branch was opened and made tool calls iterative: `Assistant::Responder`
now loops until `iteration > max_tool_call_iterations`, so a turn runs to
1 + ASSISTANT_MAX_TOOL_CALL_ITERATIONS calls — six by default — with tool
execution in between. At the default 60s per-call timeout that is up to 360s of
model time against a 90s watchdog.

Streaming does not rescue this either. `emit(:output_text)` only fires for a
response that carries text, and tool-call-only rounds carry none, so the bubble
stays on "Thinking…" through every round regardless of provider.

Documents ASSISTANT_MAX_TOOL_CALL_ITERATIONS as the cheaper lever: dropping it to
2 halves the worst case instead of demanding a half-hour timeout, at the cost of
failing long tool chains earlier with a clear limit error. compose.example.ai.yml
now shows that combination rather than a timeout sized for six calls it never had.

* docs(chat): state the whole-turn timeout as a sum, not a maximum

The guidance said to keep AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT "above" or "the larger of"
OPENAI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT. That understates it: the watchdog covers the entire turn,
so the bound is

  (1 + ASSISTANT_MAX_TOOL_CALL_ITERATIONS) * OPENAI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT
+ tool execution + queue wait

Merely exceeding the per-call limit can still leave the chat reporting failure
while the worker keeps going.

One phrasing was outright wrong: "keep AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT the largest of the
three" compared a duration against ASSISTANT_MAX_TOOL_CALL_ITERATIONS, which is a
count, not seconds.

Resizes the examples against the formula — compose.example.ai.yml 1000 -> 1200 and
the Ollama doc example 600 -> 720, both now showing the arithmetic — and states
plainly that the 90s default is sized for typical cloud latency rather than the
worst-case bound, with the formula being what matters once per-call latency
approaches the timeout.

* docs(chat): list the AI settings fields and tag the formula fence

The Settings UI walkthrough listed three of the eight fields on the AI Provider
form. JSON Mode, the three Token Budget fields and the new Chat Response Timeout
were all missing, so the timeout was only discoverable from the troubleshooting
section. Rewrites the list to follow the form's own grouping and uses the labels
the form actually renders.

Also tags the whole-turn formula fence as `text` (markdownlint MD040).

* fix(compose): forward ASSISTANT_MAX_TOOL_CALL_ITERATIONS in standard compose

This file enumerates container environment explicitly — there is no env_file — so
a variable absent from the x-rails-env anchor never reaches web or worker.

The tool-call cap was only named in a comment here, while the docs added in
3360dbf5 tell operators to lower it to keep a turn inside AI_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT.
Following that advice on this compose file silently changed nothing: the app kept
the default of 5 while the timeout was sized for 3 calls, which lands back on the
"no response" error this branch exists to fix.

Left with an empty default so the app's own default governs, matching
OPENAI_MODEL and LLM_CONTEXT_WINDOW above. compose.example.ai.yml already
forwarded it.

Guillem Arias Fauste 7f0a6fb6dc chore: drop dead transactions-section preferences (#3021)
`transactions_section_controller.js` was added by #454 for the upcoming
recurring-transactions section. #771 moved recurring transactions to a
dedicated tab and removed the only mount, so the controller and its whole
persistence chain have been dead since then:
`data-controller="transactions-section"` appears nowhere in app/views or
app/components, and `transactions_section_collapsed?` had no callers outside
its own definition.

Removed:

  - app/javascript/controllers/transactions_section_controller.js
  - User#update_transactions_preferences
  - User#transactions_section_collapsed?
  - TransactionsController#update_preferences + #preferences_params
  - the `patch :update_preferences` route on the transactions collection

The only caller of /transactions/update_preferences was the dead controller
itself. No tests referenced any of it — the `update_preferences` cases in
pages_controller_test cover the dashboard's route — which is how it stayed
dead unnoticed.

No migration: users who collapsed a section before #771 keep a stale
`transactions_collapsed_sections` key in `users.preferences`, and nothing
reads it after this.

The dashboard and reports section-layout preferences are untouched.

Guillem Arias Fauste 6818a49c73 fix(dashboard): fit money-flow month labels and put its figures on scale (#2969)
* fix(dashboard): fit money-flow month labels and put its figures on scale

Two problems in the Money In / Out widget.

The month labels collided on a phone. The axis rendered whatever
`short_month_year` produced with no regard for the space each band actually
has, and that format is only short in some locales: "Mar 2026" in English,
but "Mar de 2026" in ca/es/pt. Measured on a 390px viewport in Catalan, the
labels are 62-71px against a 56px band step — five overlapping pairs, worst
overlap 15px. English is not immune, just further from the edge: it clears by
2px at 390px and overlaps four pairs at 360px.

The chart now measures what it rendered and steps down until it fits: the
full label, then an abbreviated month, then every other tick with the
highlighted month always kept. Measuring beats assuming a character width,
which changes with locale, font and zoom.

The income and expense amounts also carried no size class, so they inherited
the 16px base. That is off the scale the dashboard uses — `text-sm` for a
repeated row, `text-lg` for a section total, `text-3xl` for a hero figure —
and left each amount larger than the label sitting next to it. They are now
`text-sm`, matching both their own labels and the equivalent amount in the
outflows widget.

The balance keeps `text-lg`: that matches the balance sheet's group total,
and with the rows corrected it now reads as the summary of the two beneath it
rather than one more oversized number.

* fix(dashboard): take the thinned-label parity from the highlighted month

The thinning tier kept every even index plus the highlighted month. That month
sits last — build_money_flow_data counts down to the selected month — so at six
bars it kept 0, 2, 4 and 5, leaving the final pair one step apart: exactly the
spacing the code had just measured as too tight.

Take the parity from the highlighted index instead, so that month is part of
the pattern rather than an exception to it. At 240px it now keeps 1, 3, 5
(Abr, Jun, Ago) evenly spaced with the selected month still shown, against
0, 2, 4, 5 before.

Guillem Arias Fauste 344cf091e1 feat(auth): sign in with a passkey, without a password (#2911)
* feat(auth): sign in with a passkey, without a password

Passkeys could only ever replace the TOTP code: registration required 2FA
to already be on, and the WebAuthn ceremony was reachable only after
User.authenticate_by had succeeded. A registered passkey can now complete
sign-in on its own, from the login page.

The ceremony requests userVerification: "required", so the authenticator
has to confirm the person as well as the device. That makes a lone passkey
two independent factors, the same bar as the password plus TOTP flow it
replaces, which is why this path deliberately skips the TOTP step. A
credential that can only prove presence is rejected here and still works
as a second factor.

Sign-in is usernameless: no email is submitted, because the browser
returns the account handle with the assertion. Nothing on this path can be
probed to learn whether an account exists. Registration now asks for a
discoverable credential with residentKey: "preferred" so the key is
offered by the picker, while authenticators without a free resident-key
slot still register as a second factor.

Where conditional mediation is available, saved passkeys appear in the
email field's autofill menu; everywhere else the button covers it. The
automatic challenge request that conditional mediation makes on every page
load gets its own looser Rack::Attack budget, so ordinary page views can
no longer exhaust the limit that protects the MFA endpoints.

Set AUTH_PASSKEY_LOGIN_ENABLED=false to keep passkeys as a second factor
only. Passkey sign-in follows the same policy as local login, so it stays
closed to regular users when AUTH_LOCAL_LOGIN_ENABLED is false.

* refactor(auth): group the passkey button with the other sign-in methods

It sat directly under the password fields, so the forgot-password link
split it from the identical SSO buttons. It is an alternative to the
credential form rather than part of it.

* fix(auth): close the passkey challenge races and document the upgrade

Three review passes converged on the conditional-mediation flow. The
AbortController was created after `isConditionalMediationAvailable()`
resolved, so a button click or a Turbo disconnect landing in that window
found nothing to abort: the conditional task carried on, re-minted the
challenge, and the assertion the user was about to produce verified
against a challenge the server had already replaced.

It is created before the first await now, and held in a local, because
`abortConditionalMediation()` nulls the field. Checking that one signal
after each await covers both triggers, so no separate connected flag is
needed.

The same symptom had a second cause nobody flagged: `authenticate()` was
not re-entrant. A double-click minted a fresh challenge under an open
authenticator prompt and rejected a perfectly valid passkey, with no race
window at all — and it was live on the MFA step-up too, which shares the
method.

The conditional catch was silent for every failure, including a rejected
assertion the user had deliberately chosen from the autofill menu.
Splitting the try draws the line where it belongs: silence before the
user has been asked anything, feedback once they have picked a passkey.
Filtering on `error.name` cannot draw it, since `fetchOptions` and
`verifyCredential` both raise a plain Error.

Also documents the upgrade: passwordless is on by default and applies to
already-registered credentials, so a passkey added purely as a second
factor can now sign its owner in alone. Nothing in the schema marks a
credential discoverable — the authenticator decides — and the opt-out is
instance-wide.

The invitation test is a guard, not coverage for this change. The pending
token lives in the Rack session and `complete_sign_in` reads it right
after creating the session, so a `reset_session` dropped in between
strands the invitee in their own family, silently and with every existing
test still green.

* fix(auth): cancel the in-flight conditional options request

Aborting the conditional flow did not cancel its options request, because
`fetchOptions` never received the signal. A click landing while that POST
was in flight left it to finish, and its response could apply last.

The challenge rides in the session cookie, so "the server wrote it" only
counts if the Set-Cookie reaches the browser. Threading the signal means
an aborted request's response is discarded, which closes the window
without needing the server to hold two challenges open.

Also drops the absolute claim about which existing credentials gain
passwordless sign-in. `residentKey: "preferred"` is a request an
authenticator may decline, and nothing records what it decided, so the
honest statement is that password managers and platform authenticators
generally store discoverable credentials rather than always.

Victor Dusart c8252ed15e feat(icons): add search field for icon selection (#2862)
* feat(icons): add search field for icon selection

* fix(icons): address review suggestions on the icon picker

* fix(goals): prevent the icon picker popover from collapsing

`updatePopupPosition` sets `bottom: 0px` when the popover would run past
the fold,
but never clears Tailwind's `top-full`.
With both offsets set and `height: auto`, CSS derives the height from
the offsets
instead of the content, collapsing the popover to 26px.

This PR is what makes it reachable: the search row (42px plus an 8px gap)
and the grid going max-h-40 -> max-h-52 grow the popover ~98px, moving the
overflow trigger point far enough to hit standalone /goals/new at 1280x800.

`h-fit` makes the height non-auto, so the over-constraint resolves by
ignoring `bottom`,
which is why categories, already carrying it, was never affected.

Brandon WolfandClaude Fable 5 5accc90a81 fix(splits): let category selector size to its content instead of clipping names (#2962)
* fix(splits): let category selector size to its content instead of clipping names

- Replace the fixed md:w-44 column with flex-initial + md:min-w-44/md:max-w-72
so the button grows with the selected category name
- Truncate the badge label in an inner span with a native title tooltip and a
max-w-64 cap, keeping the color dot from shrinking
- Widen the dropdown to md:w-80 so option badges stay readable
- select_controller: stop forcing the menu width to 100% inline (the markup's
width classes now decide) and anchor the menu to the button's right edge
when it would overflow the scroll container

Fixes #2934

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* refactor(splits): render category badges via DS::Pill

- Options render the canonical categories/badge partial; the button renders
the same DS::Pill directly (a button only allows phrasing content, so the
partial's div wrapper stays out). category_badge_select's clone selector
  follows the pill markup.
- The client-side row template in split_transaction_controller gets the same
  md:min-w-28 name-field floor as the server-rendered rows.

Guillem Arias Fauste 0eae9b2f53 fix(goals): keep the projection chart's saved line inside the plot (#2971)
The y-domain was built from the target, the projection, the required path
and today's balance — everything except the series actually drawn across the
plot. A goal whose linked account had ever held more than the target mapped
that history above the top of the scale, and with no clip region the line
painted straight out of the plot and over the legend until the SVG edge cut
it off.

Two changes.

The domain now accounts for the saved history, with 5% headroom so the peak's
stroke isn't shaved in half. It is not allowed to follow that history without
limit, though: every value the chart reasons about sits at or below the goal's
own scale, so headroom above it buys nothing but taller spikes. A goal funded
from a current account sees the whole balance as saved, and a €700 target
against a salary landing and clearing is an order of magnitude apart — scaled
to that peak, the target and both projection lines collapse into the floor and
the chart stops answering "am I on track". Past twice the goal's scale the
history is clipped instead, which keeps the target line at or above half the
plot height.

The clip region is the structural half. Series paths and the hover dot are
confined to the plot box, so anything outside the domain — a peak past the
ceiling, or a linked current account that went overdrawn and dipped below
zero — stops at the edge instead of painting over the legend above or the
date axis below. Clipped peaks stay readable: the tooltip still reports their
real amount.

Behaviour by how far the history overshoots the goal's scale:

  0.6x  ->  domain 1050, no clipping
  1.4x  ->  domain 1470, no clipping (autoscaled)
2.0x -> domain 2100, no clipping (at the ceiling)
8.0x -> domain 2100, clipped inside the plot

Guillem Arias FausteandJuan José Mata 7907a27a55 fix(list-filter): match accented text regardless of typed diacritics (#2814)
* fix(list-filter): match accented text regardless of typed diacritics

"prestecs" didn't match a category literally named "Prèstecs" — the
filter only lowercased before comparing, and lowercasing doesn't strip
diacritics ("è" and "e" are different codepoints).

Normalizes both the typed value and each item's data-filter-name via
NFD decomposition + \p{Diacritic} stripping before comparing, so a
search matches regardless of which side has the accent.

This is one shared Stimulus controller behind every filterable list in
the app (category dropdown, transaction search filters for category/
merchant/tag/account, DS::Select, DS::tag_select, settings preferences,
family merchants merge, split category select) — fixing it here covers
all of them, not just categories.

Verified live: typing "prestecs" and "prèstecs" both correctly filter
down to a category named "Prèstecs" in the transaction categorize
dropdown, out of ~20 sibling categories.

* fix(list-filter): use \p{Mark} instead of \p{Diacritic}

Codex review on this PR: \p{Diacritic} is broader than combining marks
— it also covers standalone characters (ASCII ^ and backtick, the
middle dot, modifier letters like the Hawaiian ʻokina). Since this
controller filters arbitrary user-defined names, a query consisting of
just one of those normalizes to "", and "".includes() matches
everything, so that search silently shows every row instead of
filtering.

Verified in node against the exact characters raised: \p{Mark} leaves
"^", "`", "·", and "ʻ" untouched while still stripping real combining
diacritics (café → cafe, prèstecs → prestecs).

* fix(list-filter): don't match everything when query normalizes to empty

A non-empty query that normalizes away to "" (e.g. a lone combining mark)
previously matched every row, since "".includes("") is true. Only a
genuinely empty raw input should mean "show everything" now.

Guillem Arias Fauste 23e7db4f4d feat(transactions): surface recently-used categories in the category picker (#2829)
* fix(transactions): don't crash the rule-prompt flash when clearing a category

needs_rule_notification? only checked saved_change_to_category_id? and
eligible_for_category_rule?, neither of which accounts for category_id
being nil. Clearing a category (Clear category / entryable_attributes
category_id: nil) satisfies both, so the caller went on to read
transaction.category.name against a nil category and crashed.

A rule prompt only makes sense when a category was assigned, not
cleared, so bail out early when there's no category to build a rule
around.

* feat(transactions): surface recently-used categories in the category picker

Reframes the recency-vs-muscle-memory question as additive, not
either/or: a small "Recent" section pinned above the existing
alphabetical list, which stays exactly where it always was below it.
Precedent for reordering the primary list by frequency (Office's old
adaptive menus, browser-history-style resorting) is a well-known
anti-pattern — position drifts under the user's hand. Every picker
that does recency well (VS Code's command palette, Spotify, Slack's
emoji picker) adds a small separate recent cluster instead.

- Category#last_used_at, touched only in
TransactionCategoriesController#update — the one place a category is
actually hand-picked by a person, as opposed to a rule or import
  auto-assigning one.
- Category.recently_used_for(family:, excluding:, limit:) batches the
family-scoped query; dropdowns_controller excludes the already-
selected category from the Recent section since it's already pinned
to the top of the main list.
- "Recent" hides itself the moment a search query is typed — it's a
pre-search shortcut, not a second copy of search results. Its rows
are force-hidden (not just filtered) so keyboard nav can't land on a
row that's invisible only because its ancestor section is hidden.

* fix(categories): address review feedback on recent-categories picker

- Track last_used_at from every manual assignment path (transaction edit
form, categorization wizard bulk-update, create-and-assign), not just
the category-picker endpoint. Centralized as Transaction#record_category_usage!,
called explicitly from each manual controller action rather than wired
  to a blanket after_save callback, since rule/import auto-assignment
must not count as a "recent" pick.
- Give recent-section rows a distinct DOM id (recent_category_option_<id>)
  from their canonical-list counterpart so aria-activedescendant can't
resolve to a hidden duplicate during keyboard nav.
- Fix migration to ActiveRecord::Migration[7.2] to match the rest of the repo.
- Materialize @recent_categories with .to_a to avoid a redundant query.

pro3958andagentloop 8a441582f9 fix(layout): persist sidebar collapse preference across reloads (#2764)
The app-layout Stimulus controller read this.userIdValue when saving
sidebar state but never declared a static values block, so Stimulus
did not bind data-app-layout-user-id-value. this.userIdValue was
undefined, and every toggle PATCHed /users/undefined, which could not
update show_sidebar or show_ai_sidebar. The preference was never
stored, so the layout reset on the next load.

Declare static values = { userId: String }. String is correct for
both UUID and integer ids since the value is only interpolated into
the request URL. The layout already renders the attribute and
UsersController#user_params already permits both fields, so the
update now completes.

Guillem Arias Fauste cedf28a5a9 fix(accounts): make the sync toolbar and toast agree, fix toast overlap (#2813)
* fix(accounts): make the sync toolbar and toast agree, fix toast overlap

The Accounts page's own sync toolbar (refresh icon, "Cancel sync") and the
global sync-complete toast were three inconsistently-styled, disconnected
pieces of UI representing one action, and the toast overlapped the page's
own header instead of sitting near it.

- "Cancel sync" was hand-rolled markup instead of a DS::Button, unlike its
sibling refresh icon right next to it — now both are DS::Button (:ghost).
- The refresh icon just went `disabled` with no visible "working" state —
now shows a spinning loader-circle while a family sync is in progress,
matching the pattern already used in provider_sync_summary.html.erb.
- The toolbar was plain server-rendered HTML with no way to know a sync
finished, so it stayed stuck showing "still syncing" indefinitely next to
a toast now saying otherwise. Family::SyncCompleteEvent now broadcasts a
second replace target for the toolbar alongside the existing toast
  replace, so both resolve together.
- The notification tray was a <body>-level fixed overlay centered on the
full viewport, but every layout that renders it has a sidebar of some
kind — so it never actually centered on the visible content pane, and
landed on top of the settings-layout header. It now renders in-flow at
the top of each layout's own content region (opt-in via
  notification_tray_inline, since the simpler single-column layouts don't
have this mismatch and are unaffected).
- Added the Catalan sync_toast/cancel_sync strings that were missing
entirely, which is why the toast/toolbar showed English text on an
  otherwise-Catalan page.

Verified live in a real browser via a new system test covering the idle,
syncing, and cancel-flash states, plus a model test on the new broadcast
target.

* fix(accounts): keep the tray a floating overlay, sidebar-aware instead

Codex on this PR: with the tray as first-child-of-scrollable-main, a
notification delivered while scrolled down is inserted above the
viewport and stays unseen — breaking the sync toast's manual-refresh
path specifically, since sync_toast_controller.js suppresses
auto-refresh while a form is focused and relies on the toast being
visible to offer that manual refresh.

Reverts the tray to a position: fixed overlay for every layout (so it
can't be scrolled out of view), and fixes the actual bug that made it
overlap the accounts toolbar in the first place — a ResizeObserver on
<main> centers it on the real content pane instead of the viewport,
for the two layouts with a sidebar (application, settings passed via
sidebar_aware:). The five single-column layouts are untouched; for
those, viewport-center already is content-pane-center.

One trap worth flagging: this app renders turbo_refreshes_with
method: :morph, and idiomorph resets any inline style a client script
set that isn't in the freshly-fetched HTML — including the JS-set
`left`. data-turbo-permanent looked like the fix but isn't: it invokes
idiomorph's node-identity matching (same id preserved across ANY
morphed page), which broke navigation once the id existed on
structurally different layouts (app vs settings) — a real, reproduced
bug, caught by the system test before it shipped. Went with the
narrower turbo:before-morph-attribute event instead, which blocks only
the `style` attribute on this one element, with no node-identity
system involved.

Rewrote the system test's positioning assertion to match: it now
asserts the tray centers on <main> rather than sitting above the page
header, since a fixed overlay was never going to satisfy the latter by
construction.

Verified: full bin/rails test (6023 runs, 0 failures), rubocop, erb_lint,
brakeman (0 warnings) all clean. Live-verified in a browser across both
sidebar-aware layouts and a simple layout, including the full
cancel-sync -> morph -> re-render cycle.

* fix(accounts): use declarative Stimulus action for morph-attribute guard

Replace the manual addEventListener/removeEventListener pair for
turbo:before-morph-attribute with a data-action, per the repo's
declarative-actions convention. Same element, same listener — just no
manual lifecycle management.

kianrafieeandClaude Fable 5 40b18e8484 feat(reports): add net worth chart with breakdown tooltip (#2716)
* Add monthly net worth chart with group breakdown to Reports

Adds a net worth trend chart to the Reports > Net Worth section,
rendered in the same design scheme as the dashboard chart. The chart
shows one data point per month across the period selected at the top
of the Reports page, and its hover tooltip breaks the hovered month
down into per-account-group balances (Cash, Investments, Credit
Cards, Loans, etc.) under Assets and Liabilities headings with
section totals.

- BalanceSheet::NetWorthBreakdownSeriesBuilder builds the monthly
series by running Balance::ChartSeriesBuilder per account group
(grouped by accountable type), with liabilities reported as
positive magnitudes and all-zero groups omitted; cached with the
same invalidation pattern as the existing net worth series
- net_worth_chart Stimulus controller extends the existing
time_series_chart controller, overriding only data normalization
  and the tooltip template
- Reports controller passes the series through the existing
net_worth_metrics hash; tooltip headings reuse existing locale keys

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Address review: month-over-month tooltip deltas, Stimulus value labels

- Recompute each chart point's trend from the previous monthly point
instead of inheriting the raw series trend, which at a monthly
interval compared the underlying balance row's own start/end and so
reflected only the last balance update before the sample date
(chatgpt-codex-connector). The first point has no prior month and
  renders the standard flat state.
- Pass tooltip section labels to the Stimulus controller as declared
values (data-*-value attributes) per coding guidelines (coderabbit)

e3a7107271 Feature/dashboard Add "Money In / Out" dashboard widget with monthly bar chart (#2594)
* Add "Money In / Out" dashboard widget

Adds a new dashboard section showing a monthly bar chart of cash
activity alongside a summary card (net balance, income, expenses),
with per-widget month navigation and account filtering.

- IncomeStatement#totals_for computes income/expense totals for an
arbitrary period, optionally scoped to a set of account ids
- New bar_chart_controller.js (D3) renders the monthly bars
- Income/expense rows link through to filtered transactions

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Fix tooltip/dropdown positioning and split money flow chart by income/expense

The widget's @container wrapper established a new containing block for
position:fixed descendants, so the month-picker and account-filter
menus (floating-ui, strategy: fixed) and the D3 tooltip (container-
relative coordinates) rendered away from their trigger/bar. Drop
@container in favor of regular viewport breakpoints for this
full-width widget, and position the tooltip with page-relative
coordinates like the other chart controllers.

Also replace the single combined bar per month with a grouped
expense/income pair (red/green, with a legend) so each month's
inflow and outflow are visible independently.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Cap and scroll the money flow widget's month picker

Add an optional max_height to DS::Menu (opt-in, backward compatible)
so a long item list scrolls inside a fixed-height panel instead of
overflowing the viewport. Use it for the money flow widget's 12-month
picker.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Use design system tokens for income/expense indicators in money flow widget

Swap the four bg-green-500/bg-red-500 dot indicators (legend + income/expense row links) in the money flow widget for bg-success/bg-destructive, matching the "functional tokens only" rule. The same partial already uses
text-success/text-destructive for the balance figure, and bg-success/ bg-destructive are already established elsewhere (DS::Alert, budget_categories/_budget_category.html.erb).

* Fix future-month 500 and pending-transaction link mismatch in money flow widget

Two CI review findings on the money flow widget:

- A future month passed via ?money_flow_month= (e.g. a bookmarked/hand-edited URL) made end_date earlier than month_start once capped at Date.current, which Period.custom rejects, causing a 500. money_flow_month_param now clamps future months to the current month, same as it already does for malformed input.

- The income/expense row links passed type/date/account filters but no status, so Transaction::Search included pending transactions even though the displayed totals (IncomeStatement#totals_for) exclude them via excluding_pending. Add status: ["confirmed"] to both links so the linked list matches the card total.

Also strengthens the widget's controller tests: asserts the highlighted bar's actual income/expense values instead of just its presence, and adds a regression test proving an account id outside the current user's accessible accounts is dropped (falls back to the unfiltered state) rather than leaking or erroring.

* Fix account filter eligibility and SVG dark mode fill in money flow widget

Two more CI review findings on the money flow widget:

The account filter iterated over all visible/accessible accounts, a broader set than IncomeStatement actually counts (accounts excluded from reports, tax-advantaged accounts like 401k/IRA, or shared accounts not included in the user's finances). Selecting one of these silently computed to zero while its drill-down link could still list its transactions. Add IncomeStatement#eligible_accounts, mirroring the same criteria already applied in the totals SQL, and use it for both the checkbox list and the account_ids intersection.

The D3 axis tick text elements used text-primary/text-secondary, which set CSS color, not SVG fill, so labels rendered with the default black fill and were unreadable in dark mode. Add fill-current, matching the pattern already used in sankey_chart_controller.js.

Adds controller/model tests for eligible_accounts (excluded from the account filter, ignored when passed as a filter id, excluded from totals) and verifies the dark-mode fill fix visually.

* Extract duplicated bar-chart JSON parsing into a test helper

The css_select("[data-controller='bar-chart']").first + JSON.parse(chart["data-bar-chart-data-value"]) pattern was repeated across four money flow widget tests in pages_controller_test.rb. Extract it into a private money_flow_bars helper and use it everywhere instead.

* Preserve eligible account scope in money flow drill-down links when unfiltered

The income/expense drill-down links used money_flow_data[:account_ids] directly, which is nil in the widget's default unfiltered state, so .compact dropped the account filter entirely from the link. TransactionsController treats an absent account_ids as all accessible accounts, a broader set than IncomeStatement#eligible_accounts (which excludes tax-advantaged, excluded-from-reports, and non-finance shared accounts). Users with any such account could click a displayed total and see transactions that were never counted in it.

Use selected_account_ids (already computed as money_flow_data[:account_ids] || accounts.map(&:id)) for both links instead, so they always pin to the same eligible accounts backing the total, filtered or not. Left the month-picker link on money_flow_data[:account_ids] so navigating months while unfiltered doesn't bloat the URL with every eligible account id.

Adds a regression test confirming the default (unfiltered) links include account_ids and exclude an ineligible account's id.

* Refine Money In/Out dashboard widget

- 6-month window (was 3), half-width default with responsive stack, income-first
bars, 2px floor + faded in-progress (partial) month
- Expense series/figures neutral (gray/text-primary) — app reserves red for
  negative/overspend; neutral zero balance
- Account filter: outline DS::Button + list-filter icon trigger with in-panel
  search (DS::SearchInput + list-filter), matching the app's filter convention
- i18n search_accounts (en + fr); bump money_flow bar-count test 3 -> 6

* Clarify Money In/Out scope: month label, 6-month caption, filter "All"

Addresses confusion between the widget's own month picker and the dashboard's
global period, and between the picked month and the 6-month chart span.

- Card now headed with the selected month (e.g. "July 2026") so it's clear the
totals below are that month's, driven by the picker
- Chart legend row captioned "Last N months" so the trailing window is explicit
- Info tooltip by the month picker: the widget scopes to the month you pick
here, independent of the dashboard's top-level period
- Account filter trigger reads "All accounts" when nothing is filtered out,
  instead of "Filter accounts (N)"
- i18n (en + fr) for the new strings

* Match tooltip expense dot to the gray bar palette

Guillem Arias Fauste e56a1825b2 feat: resizable accounts & assistant sidebars (#2482)
* feat(layout): make the accounts and assistant sidebars resizable

Add draggable dividers on the left (accounts) and right (assistant)
sidebars. Width is driven by a `--{side}-sidebar-width` CSS variable on
the layout root and persisted per-device in localStorage; it composes
with the existing show/hide toggle (collapse still wins via `w-0`,
reopening restores the last width).

Clamping keeps each sidebar within its bounds (min 240px, max 480/560px)
and guarantees the center column never drops below 400px, so the
dashboard stays legible no matter how wide a sidebar is dragged.

- sidebar_resize_controller.js: pointer drag, keyboard nudge
(arrows / Home), double-click reset, localStorage persistence
- utils/sidebar_resize.js: pure, unit-tested clamp helper
- layouts/shared/_sidebar_resize_handle.html.erb: accessible
  separator handle (role=separator, aria-label, focusable)
- test/javascript/utils/sidebar_resize_test.mjs: clamp logic tests

* fix(sidebar-resize): free a collapsed sidebar's space and guard localStorage read

- #clamp now uses the opposite sidebar's rendered width (0 when collapsed)
instead of its stored CSS variable, so closing one sidebar lets the other
use the freed space (addresses Codex review).
- #applyStoredWidth wraps the localStorage read in try/catch and falls back
to the default, so connect() can't bail in storage-blocked browsers
  (addresses CodeRabbit review).

Guillem Arias Fauste 169fd139b5 fix(chat): surface and recover from undelivered assistant responses (#2436)
* fix(chat): surface and recover from undelivered assistant responses

When the background worker that runs AssistantResponseJob is down or not
polling the high_priority queue, the eager "pending" assistant message had no
safeguard: chat hung on "Thinking…" forever with no error, timeout, or retry,
and the LLM provider was never even called.

Add three layers of resilience:

- Client watchdog (chat_controller.js): a pending "Thinking…" bubble that waits
past a threshold (default 90s) with no response asks the server to fail it.
Keyed on the pending marker — which disappears the instant a real response
streams — so a slow-but-working response is never falsely timed out.

- Server failure capture (Chat#handle_undelivered_response! +
MessagesController#report_timeout): clears the dead bubble, records a friendly
"the assistant didn't respond" error with Retry, and writes a DebugLogEntry so
support can see it in /settings/debug.

- Worker liveness signal (BackgroundJobHealth + warning banner): reads Sidekiq's
process/queue state directly from Redis in the web process — so a down worker
is detectable even though the worker is the thing that's broken — and warns
self-hosted users when no worker polls high_priority or it's badly backed up.
Fails open so a Sidekiq/Redis blip never blocks chat.

Tests: Chat model (3), MessagesController (2), BackgroundJobHealth (5).

* fix(chat): address review — server-side timeout guard + watchdog retry safety

- Chat#handle_undelivered_response!: gate the state change behind a row lock and
  a server-side minimum age (UNDELIVERED_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT = 60s). The browser
watchdog is untrusted, so re-read the row under lock and only fail a bubble
that is still pending AND has genuinely waited past the timeout — never racing
a worker that is finishing a slow response. (Codex P2 + CodeRabbit)
- chat_controller.js: only mark a report URL as reported on response.ok (fetch
resolves on HTTP 4xx/5xx, rejecting only on network errors), and guard
concurrent duplicate POSTs with an in-flight set, so a failed report retries
instead of stranding the bubble. (CodeRabbit)
- _worker_health_warning: drop the unused `chat:` local + its render arg. (CodeRabbit)

c29380ce57 feat(dashboard): masonry packing + per-widget size controls (#2328)
* feat(dashboard): masonry packing + per-widget size controls

In two-column mode the dashboard used a row-based CSS grid, so cards
stretched to equal row height and left dead space (e.g. the Net Worth
chart padded out to match the tall Balance Sheet table). Replace the
row-based layout with masonry packing and add per-widget size guardrails.

- Masonry: CSS grid with computed row-spans + grid-auto-flow: dense, driven
  by a dashboard-masonry Stimulus controller (ResizeObserver + turbo:frame-load).
The DOM stays a single flat list, so drag/keyboard reorder is unaffected.
Active only in multi-column mode; single column falls back to normal flow.
- Internal sizing: the net worth chart height is now driven by a
--dash-widget-h CSS var (fixes an inert flex-1) so the card no longer pads
  out below the chart.
- Guardrails: per-widget layout metadata (col_span, grow, min_height,
width_toggle) in PagesController, with per-user overrides persisted under
preferences["dashboard_section_layout"], deep-merged so width and height coexist.
- Size menu: a hover control on size-capable cards — Width (Half/Full) for the
cashflow sankey and net worth chart, Height (Compact/Auto/Tall) for grow
widgets. The sankey defaults to full width.

Adds model + controller tests for preference persistence and i18n keys.

* refactor(dashboard): redesign size menu with segmented controls

The size menu used a plain radio list and a diagonal maximize-2 trigger that
collided with the cashflow sankey's modal-expand button. Replace it with a
layout-config popover: a sliders-horizontal trigger plus two labeled axis
groups (Width, Height), each rendered as a DS::SegmentedControl with the
active option filled. Clearer, more compact, and it reads as a card-layout
control. The widget-size controller now mirrors the segmented control's
active-class + aria-pressed contract.

* feat(dashboard): expose width toggle on balance sheet and investments

Tables benefit from horizontal room, so give Balance Sheet and Investments
the same Width (Half/Full) control as the sankey and net worth chart. Height
presets stay chart-only — a table sized to a fixed height would just add
whitespace or force scrolling. The Outflows donut is intentionally left out
(full width is mostly whitespace for a donut).

* fix(dashboard): address review feedback on size controls

- Only apply the full-width col-span and show the Width control when the
two-column layout is enabled. A full widget previously leaked
2xl:col-span-2 into the single-column grid, creating an implicit second
column at 2xl widths and breaking the single-column preference. This also
keeps the Width control coherent with the Appearance two-column setting
(it now appears only where it does something). [Codex]
- Stop size-menu keydowns from bubbling to the section reorder handler, so
keyboard users can open the menu and pick options without entering
  grab/reorder mode. [Codex]
- Harden preferences params: ignore a malformed (non-hash)
  dashboard_section_layout / collapsed_sections instead of raising a 500,
and require section_order to be an array. [CodeRabbit]
- Localize the dashboard sections aria-label. [CodeRabbit]

* chore(settings): mention per-widget size controls in two-column copy

Surface the new per-widget width/height controls in the Appearance
"Two-column layout" description so the capability is discoverable.

* test(dashboard): assert non-mutation for malformed layout input

Addresses review feedback: asserting assert_nil made the test depend on
the fixture happening to have no dashboard height for net_worth_chart.
Capture the pre-PATCH value and assert it is unchanged, so the test
stays valid (malformed input ignored) even if the fixture later gets a

Guillem Arias FausteandGuillem Arias 5608f2b3fa fix(settings): give the MCP copy button success feedback (#2314)
* fix(settings): give the MCP copy button success feedback

The MCP server URL Copy button copied to the clipboard but showed no
feedback. It is a DS::Button (single icon), but clipboard_controller's
showSuccess() unconditionally toggled iconDefault/iconSuccess targets —
which that markup does not have — so it threw right after the copy and
the user saw nothing.

Guard the icon-swap path (still used by invite codes, MFA and profiles)
and add a fallback that briefly flips the button's own label to Copied!
via a new copiedText value. Wire it up on the MCP page.

* fix(settings): capture copy button before async clipboard resolve

event.currentTarget is null by the time the writeText().then() callback
runs (it's only valid during event dispatch), so showSuccess received
null and the label never flipped. Capture the button synchronously in
copy() and pass it through. Verified in-browser: Copy -> Copied! -> Copy.

* refactor(clipboard): unify feedback reset delay, harden label lookup

Extract a shared RESET_DELAY_MS so the icon-swap and label-flash paths last the
same duration when both copy buttons render on one page. Scope the label lookup
to span.truncate (the DS::Button text node) so it ignores any future icon span.
Per review feedback.

Will WilsonandGuillem Arias Fauste d908560ed9 feat(cashflow): deep-link category labels to filtered transactions (#2083)
* feat(cashflow): deep-link category labels to filtered transactions

Clicking a category's text label in the dashboard cashflow Sankey chart
now navigates to the transactions page filtered by that category and the
cashflow's active period date range. The colored node bar keeps its
existing zoom-into-subcategories behavior; structural nodes (Cash Flow,
Surplus) do not navigate.

URL-building lives in a pure, unit-tested utils/transactions_filter_url
module (mirroring utils/sankey_zoom) pinned in the importmap. Period dates
are threaded from the dashboard view into the Stimulus controller via data
values. This matches the existing donut chart's click-to-filter behavior.

* Update app/javascript/controllers/sankey_chart_controller.js

Guillem Arias Fauste 5f391f7fff fix(settings): preserve content scroll position per page across navigation (#2277)
Settings nav items are plain Turbo Drive links (full-body visits); Turbo only
restores window scroll, so the nested overflow-y-auto content container snapped
to the top on every settings navigation.

Add a settings-scroll Stimulus controller that saves/restores the content scroll
keyed by pathname: returning to a page restores its scroll, a new page opens at
the top, and a same-page re-render (settings form auto-submit) keeps scroll.
Distinct from the nav's preserve-scroll controller, which keys by element id to
intentionally carry one position across pages.

Verified live: scroll 250 on Preferences -> Appearance opens at top -> back to
Preferences restores 250.

Guillem Arias Fauste d29591cff9 fix(ds): unify tab/chip controls on DS::SegmentedControl (#8) (#2284)
* fix(ds): goals status filter -> DS::SegmentedControl

The goals status chips were a hand-rolled segmented control: active state
toggled via ad-hoc bg-container/shadow-border-xs/text-* classes, NO hover on
inactive chips, and a light-only focus ring (ring-alpha-black-100, invisible in
dark mode). Migrate to DS::SegmentedControl button segments + toggle the
canonical --active class in goals_filter_controller#syncChipState. Gains the
dark-safe hover (hover:bg-gray-200 / theme-dark:hover:bg-gray-800) and the
canonical focus ring. First control in the tab-consistency pass (#8).

* fix(ds): provider filter chips -> DS::SegmentedControl

Same hand-rolled segmented control as the goals chips: active toggled via
ad-hoc bg-container/shadow/text classes, no inactive hover, light-only
ring-alpha-black-100 focus ring. Migrate to DS::SegmentedControl + toggle the
canonical --active class in providers_filter_controller#syncChipState.

* fix(ds): transaction-type tabs -> DS::SegmentedControl

Expense/Income/Transfer tabs were hand-rolled with a hover==active affordance
bug: inactive hover raised bg to bg-container, identical to the active state, so
hover and selected were indistinguishable. Migrate to DS::SegmentedControl (link
segments + icons); the controller toggles the canonical --active class instead
of swapping ad-hoc ACTIVE/INACTIVE class lists. The client-side nature switch
(expense<->income updates the form's hidden nature field without navigating) is
preserved -- verified live: switching to Income flips the active segment AND
sets the nature field to inflow.

* fix(ds): reports period tabs -> DS::SegmentedControl

The Monthly/Quarterly/YTD/Last-6-Months/Custom period selector was five
DS::Link ghost/secondary buttons -- a different tab idiom than the rest of the
app. Migrate to DS::SegmentedControl link segments (server-rendered active via
aria-current; pure navigation, no controller). Now matches the goals / provider /
transaction-type controls + the AI provider picker. Also autocorrected a
pre-existing single-quote in the next-period aria-label.

Guillem Arias Fausteandsure-admin c375b8bf5c feat(ai): self-host settings UI for Anthropic provider (5/5) (#1987)
* feat(ai): add Anthropic provider with chat parity (1/5)

Introduces Provider::Anthropic alongside Provider::Openai, implementing
the LlmConcept chat_response contract over the official anthropic Ruby
SDK. Batch ops, PDF, and RAG land in follow-up PRs.

- Provider::Anthropic uses Messages API for sync and streaming responses
- ChatConfig builds requests with ephemeral prompt-cache markers on the
system prompt and the last tool definition
- MessageFormatter reconstructs multi-turn history (text + tool_use +
tool_result blocks) from raw Message records, including the paired
user-role tool_result turn Anthropic requires after every tool_use
- ChatParser maps Anthropic Message into the shared ChatResponse Data
- Registry, Setting, User, Chat default model wired for ANTHROPIC_*
envs and Setting.anthropic_*; LLM_PROVIDER selects between providers
- Responder forwards raw conversation_history (Array<Message>) so
providers without hosted conversation state can rebuild context
- OpenAI provider accepts and ignores the new kwarg (no behavior change)

Tests cover provider init, model gating, MessageFormatter for all turn
shapes, ChatConfig request building (max_tokens, system cache, tool
conversion), ChatParser for text / tool_use / mixed blocks, Registry
discovery, and mocked chat_response success / error / function_request
paths. Live VCR cassettes recorded in a follow-up with a real key.

Stacked PRs: 2/5 batch ops + cost ledger, 3/5 PDF, 4/5 pgvector RAG,
5/5 settings UI + disclosure.

* fix(ai): address PR review on Anthropic provider foundation

Surface fixes raised by Codex + CodeRabbit on PR 1/5:

- Provider::Anthropic#chat_response now accepts (and ignores) a
  `messages:` kwarg. Assistant::Responder passes both `messages:`
(OpenAI-shape) and `conversation_history:` (raw Message records) for
cross-provider parity, so the previous signature raised
ArgumentError on the first chat turn through the Anthropic provider.
- Provider::Anthropic#supports_model? bypasses the `claude` prefix
gate when a custom base_url is configured, mirroring the OpenAI
  provider. Bedrock-shaped IDs like
  `anthropic.claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929-v1:0` and
  `claude-opus-4@20250514` are otherwise rejected by
  Assistant::Provided#get_model_provider and the chat dies.
- Setting.anthropic_access_token is now in
EncryptedSettingFields::ENCRYPTED_FIELDS so the Anthropic API key
is encrypted at rest like every other provider secret. Previously
  plaintext while siblings (openai_access_token, twelve_data_api_key,
  external_assistant_token) were ciphertext.
- Chat.default_model falls back to whichever provider is actually
configured. Previously, with LLM_PROVIDER=anthropic but no
Anthropic credentials, the default model resolved to a Claude ID
that no registered provider supported, so chats failed even when
OpenAI was fully configured. Adds Provider::{Anthropic,Openai}#configured?
class methods for the readable callsite.
- Provider::Anthropic.effective_model uses
  `ENV["ANTHROPIC_MODEL"].presence || Setting.anthropic_model` so the
Setting lookup is only performed when the env var is absent — the
previous `ENV.fetch(KEY, default)` evaluated the default arg
  eagerly on every call.
- Provider::Anthropic::ChatConfig#anthropic_input_schema strips both
`:strict` and `"strict"` keys so JSON-decoded schemas with string
keys cannot leak the OpenAI-only flag through to Anthropic.

Test coverage added: supports_model? bypass on custom endpoints,
chat_response messages: kwarg compatibility, default_model fallback
in the three credential combinations, configured? against ENV +
Setting, strict-flag stripping for both key types, and a
`Setting.expects(:anthropic_model).never` assertion proving the
ENV-precedence test now exercises the lazy path.

All 4365 tests pass (1 pre-existing libvips env error unrelated).

* test(chat): make default_model tests resilient to ENV model overrides

CodeRabbit flagged on PR review: the new default_model tests asserted
against Provider::*::DEFAULT_MODEL, but Chat.default_model actually
returns Provider::*.effective_model.presence (which reads
OPENAI_MODEL / ANTHROPIC_MODEL from the environment). With either env
var set, the tests would fail intermittently even though routing was
correct.

- New default_model tests now assert against the provider's
effective_model directly, so they verify the routing decision
(which provider's value wins) without coupling to the constant.
- Pre-existing "creates with default model" assertions had the same
brittleness; switch them to compare against Chat.default_model so
the chosen model is whatever the env / Setting cascade resolves to.

Verified by running `ANTHROPIC_MODEL=claude-haiku-4-5 OPENAI_MODEL=gpt-4o
bin/rails test test/models/chat_test.rb` — 16 runs, 0 failures
(previously 2 pre-existing failures + 0 from the new tests).

* fix(ai): address local review on Anthropic foundation

- Provider::Anthropic#supports_pdf_processing? bypasses prefix gate for
  custom endpoints, mirroring supports_model?
- Provider::Anthropic#initialize raises Error when custom_endpoint? AND
  model.blank?, parity with Provider::Openai
- stream_chat_response captures partial usage on mid-stream errors and
records it via the new on_partial callback so chat_response can skip
the duplicate error row in the outer rescue
- safe_accumulated_message swallows the secondary failure when the SDK
  cannot reconstruct a snapshot
- langfuse_client memoizes properly (||= instead of =) so repeated calls
  don't churn Langfuse instances
- MessageFormatter sorts tool_calls by created_at then id so the
message array is deterministic across replays; skips tool_calls
missing both provider_call_id and provider_id rather than sending
`id: nil` and getting rejected by Anthropic
- Setting.anthropic_access_token default falls back through
ENV["ANTHROPIC_API_KEY"].presence (was missing .presence, so an
  empty-string env value bled through)
- User#openai_configured? / #anthropic_configured? delegate to the
Provider::* class methods — single source of truth
- Assistant::Responder renames the OpenAI-shape history builder
  conversation_history → openai_messages_payload so the kwarg name
matches the local method name (messages: openai_messages_payload,
  conversation_history: chat_message_records)
- Assistant::Builtin stale-history comment updated to reference both
  builders

Adds a streaming chat_response test using ad-hoc subclasses of the
SDK event types so the case/when dispatch matches via is_a? without
stubbing class-level === behavior.

* test(ai): add Anthropic tool_use round-trip + multi-tool turn coverage

Addresses @jjmata's "worth confirming" note on PR #1983: tool-use turns
from prior assistant messages must round-trip correctly when retrieved
from the database.

- New `ChatParser → ToolCall::Function → MessageFormatter` test walks
the full path: Anthropic response with a tool_use block →
  ChatFunctionRequest → ToolCall::Function.from_function_request →
persisted on the AssistantMessage → MessageFormatter rebuild on the
next turn. Asserts the original `tool_use.id` is preserved end-to-end
as both `tool_use.id` and the paired `tool_result.tool_use_id`, and
that the original `input` hash and serialized result content survive.
- New multi-tool assistant turn test confirms two tool_use blocks on a
single assistant message render as two tool_use blocks followed by
  two paired tool_result blocks in a single user-role follow-up,
  matching Anthropic's required alternation.

Both tests exercise the existing PR1 code without behavior changes.

* test(ai): require "ostruct" explicitly in Anthropic provider tests

OpenStruct is moving out of Ruby's default load path (warning in 3.4+,
removed in 3.5+). Tests work today because ActiveSupport transitively
loads it, but that's incidental. Match the existing convention in
test/controllers/settings/hostings_controller_test.rb which explicitly
requires ostruct for the same reason.

* fix(ai): sanitize Langfuse warn logs, normalize tool_use.input, dedup history fetch

Addresses three open CodeRabbit findings on PR #1983.

- Provider::Anthropic Langfuse rescue branches no longer include
  `e.full_message` in `Rails.logger.warn`. `full_message` bundles the
backtrace + cause chain and on some SDK error types includes the
serialized request/response payload (prompt, model output). Logs
now report `#{e.class}: #{e.message}` only. Three sites:
  create_langfuse_trace, log_langfuse_generation, upsert_langfuse_trace.
Note: Provider::Openai has the same pattern (copy-pasted source) —
harmonization deferred to a follow-up cleanup PR; this commit fixes
only the Anthropic provider to keep PR scope tight.

- MessageFormatter#parse_arguments now coerces any non-Hash parsed
result to `{}`. Anthropic's Messages API requires `tool_use.input`
to be a JSON object (map); a stored ToolCall::Function record whose
arguments parse to a scalar, bool, or array (corrupt row, legacy
data, cross-provider bleed) would otherwise produce a payload the
API rejects. Normal flow stores Hash arguments end-to-end so the
fix is defensive — adds 2 tests covering scalar/array JSON strings
  and non-String non-Hash inputs.

- Assistant::Responder dedups the chat-history fetch. The previous
  layout fired two near-identical `chat.messages.where(...).includes(
:tool_calls).ordered` queries per LLM turn (one for the OpenAI-shape
payload, one for the raw-records kwarg). A new memoized
  `complete_chat_messages` fetches once; `chat_message_records` filters
out the current message via `Array#reject`, `openai_messages_payload`
iterates the cached array unchanged. One SQL query per turn instead
of two. Memoization scope = single Responder instance (per LLM call),
so cache invalidation is not a concern.

All 4370 tests pass (1 pre-existing libvips env error unrelated).
Rubocop + brakeman clean.

* fix(ci): replace sk-ant- prefixed test placeholders

Pipelock secret scanner pattern-matches `sk-ant-*` as a real Anthropic
API key and fails the PR security-scan check. Test stubs and
ClimateControl env values used `sk-ant-test`, `sk-ant-from-setting`,
`sk-ant-x`, `sk-ant-y` as obvious placeholders, but the scanner does
not care about value entropy.

Switched to `fake-anthropic-key-*` / `fake-token-*` strings so the
scanner stops flagging them. No production code touched, no behavior
change — Provider::Anthropic still accepts any non-blank token.

* feat(ai): add Anthropic batch ops + LLM cost ledger (2/5)

Implements auto_categorize, auto_detect_merchants, and
enhance_provider_merchants on Provider::Anthropic via forced tool calls,
plus the cost-ledger plumbing they need.

- Provider::Anthropic::AutoCategorizer, AutoMerchantDetector,
ProviderMerchantEnhancer each define a single output tool whose
input_schema mirrors the desired output, then force the model to call
  it via tool_choice: { type: "tool", name: ..., disable_parallel_tool_use: true }.
Anthropic guarantees the tool_use.input matches the schema, so there
is no JSON parsing fragility, no <think> tag stripping, and no
  json_object/json_schema fallback ladders.
- Concerns::UsageRecorder mirrors the OpenAI sibling but persists
  cache_creation_input_tokens / cache_read_input_tokens to dedicated
  columns instead of metadata.
- Migration adds cache_creation_tokens, cache_read_tokens (nullable
integers) to llm_usages. OpenAI rows leave them null.
- LlmUsage::PRICING gains Claude 4.x rows (opus-4-7 $15/$75, sonnet-4-6
  $3/$15, haiku-4-5 $1/$5 per MTok). infer_provider returns "anthropic"
for claude-* via the existing exact/prefix lookup.
- Provider::Anthropic#chat_response now persists cache columns directly
rather than stashing them in metadata.
- 25-transaction batch cap mirrors the OpenAI provider so the cost
ledger sees the same shape regardless of which provider ran a batch.

Tests cover the forced-tool-call path, null/None normalization,
case-insensitive merchant matching, the missing-tool_use error path,
and Anthropic-specific pricing + provider inference on LlmUsage.

Stacked on #1983 (PR 1/5). 3/5 PDF + vision next.

* fix(ai): attribute Bedrock model IDs to anthropic + clean nil enum

- LlmUsage.infer_provider now returns "anthropic" for Bedrock /
Vertex shaped IDs (anthropic.* and anthropic/*), so cost-ledger
filtering by provider stays correct even when no per-MTok rate is
stored. Previously these IDs fell through to the "openai" default.
- AutoCategorizer drops the redundant nil sentinel from the
category_name enum — the union type [string, null] already permits
null, and some JSON Schema validators reject nil literals inside
  enum arrays.

* test(ai): require "ostruct" in Anthropic batch op tests

Same rationale as the PR1 ostruct fix — explicit require so the tests
don't depend on ActiveSupport's transitive load when Ruby 3.5+ removes
OpenStruct from the default load path.

* feat(ai): Anthropic native PDF processing (3/5)

Implements process_pdf and extract_bank_statement on Provider::Anthropic
using the native `document` content block — no rasterization, no text
pre-extraction.

- Provider::Anthropic::PdfProcessor classifies the document, summarizes
it, and extracts statement metadata via a forced report_document_analysis
tool whose input_schema mirrors the existing Provider::Openai output
  (document_type from Import::DOCUMENT_TYPES, summary, extracted_data).
- Provider::Anthropic::BankStatementExtractor returns the same
  { transactions, period, account_holder, account_number, bank_name,
  opening_balance, closing_balance } shape via report_bank_statement so
  downstream pdf_import code is provider-agnostic.
- Both attach the PDF as
  { type: "document", source: { type: "base64", media_type: "application/pdf", data: <b64> } }
  — Claude 3.5+ / 4.x accept this natively (up to 32MB / 100 pages).
No pdf-reader, no pdftoppm, no chunking for typical statements.
- supports_pdf_processing? (introduced in PR 1) already returns true for
claude-* models, gating process_pdf with a clear error otherwise.
- Cost ledger rows are persisted via the shared UsageRecorder concern,
  including cache_creation/cache_read tokens.

Tests verify the document block shape, tool_choice forcing, normalized
document_type for unknown classifications, transaction normalization
(date / amount / reference → notes), and the missing-tool_use error
path. Blank pdf_content raises before any client call.

Stacked on #1984 (PR 2/5). 4/5 pgvector RAG next.

* fix(ai): guard PDF size + surface bank-statement truncation

- PdfProcessor and BankStatementExtractor raise upfront when
  pdf_content.bytesize exceeds MAX_PDF_BYTES (32 MB, matching
Anthropic's hard limit). Previously a 100 MB PDF would be
base64-encoded (~133 MB) and packed into the JSON body before
the API rejected it — peak heap ~270 MB per Sidekiq worker.
- BankStatementExtractor inspects response.stop_reason; when the
model hit max_tokens it logs a warning and flags result[:truncated]
so downstream callers know the transaction list may be incomplete.
- ISO date pattern added to statement_period_start/end schema in
PdfProcessor so the model can't return "March 2026" — Anthropic
enforces the regex via the tool's input_schema.

Tests cover the size guard (raises before any client.messages call),
truncated-result flagging, and the warning log path.

* test(ai): require "ostruct" in Anthropic PDF tests

Match the explicit ostruct require added in PR1/PR2 — same Ruby 3.5+
load-path reason.

* feat(ai): default Anthropic installs to pgvector RAG (4/5)

The provider-agnostic vector store stack (VectorStore::Pgvector + the
Embeddable concern) already shipped to main. This PR closes the
Anthropic loop:

- VectorStore::Registry.adapter_name now returns :pgvector when
Setting.llm_provider == "anthropic" and no explicit
VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER override is set. Anthropic has no hosted vector
store, so falling back to the local pgvector adapter is the only
correct default. Explicit VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER still wins.
- SearchFamilyFiles surfaces a longer message when no adapter is wired
up — calling out pgvector + EMBEDDING_URI_BASE as the supported
Anthropic-only path so the user is not stuck with an "OpenAI required"
hint that is no longer accurate.

The Embeddable concern already pulls embeddings from
EMBEDDING_URI_BASE / EMBEDDING_ACCESS_TOKEN (with OpenAI as fallback),
so Anthropic installs point this at Voyage AI, a local Ollama instance,
or OpenAI embeddings — independent of the chat provider.

Tests cover the new default routing, the existing OpenAI default
staying intact, and explicit VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER overriding the
Anthropic default.

Stacked on #1985 (PR 3/5). 5/5 settings UI + retention disclosure next.

* feat(ai): self-host settings UI for Anthropic provider (5/5)

Adds the Anthropic panel and the install-wide LLM provider selector to
the self-hosting settings page, plus a shared data-retention
disclosure that covers both OpenAI and Anthropic.

- New _llm_provider_selector partial: select for Setting.llm_provider
(openai | anthropic), respects the LLM_PROVIDER env var (disables the
control + shows the "configured through environment variables" hint
when set, mirroring the existing OpenAI panel behaviour), and renders
a compact data-handling block with one-line retention statements for
  each provider.
- New _anthropic_settings partial mirrors _openai_settings exactly:
password-field for the API key with **** redaction, optional
base_url (for AWS Bedrock / GCP Vertex), optional default model. All
three fields disable when their ENV var is set.
- show.html.erb renders provider selector + OpenAI panel + Anthropic
panel under the same "General" section so users can configure either
  (or both) without switching pages.
- Settings::HostingsController#update now permits and persists
anthropic_access_token (ignoring the **** placeholder, same pattern
  as OpenAI), anthropic_base_url, anthropic_model, and llm_provider
(validated against %w[openai anthropic]). On Setting::ValidationError
  the rescue branch preserves anthropic_base_url / anthropic_model
input so the form re-renders with the user's typed values intact —
parity with the issue #1824 fix for OpenAI.
- Locale keys added under settings.hostings.{llm_provider_selector,
  anthropic_settings}.

Tests cover token update + placeholder redaction, base_url + model
update, llm_provider switch to anthropic, and rejection of unknown
provider values. The existing GET render test still passes, exercising
all three new partials.

Closes the 5/5 Anthropic series stacked on #1986.

* fix(ai): valid Tailwind token + base_url URL validation

- Data-handling block in _llm_provider_selector swaps the invalid
bg-surface-secondary token for bg-container-inset, matching the
inset-card pattern used elsewhere in sure-design-system/components.css.
bg-surface-secondary is not defined anywhere in the design system —
Tailwind treated it as a no-op, so the block rendered with no
  background contrast.
- Settings::HostingsController validates anthropic_base_url as a
URI::HTTP (catches https too) and raises Setting::ValidationError
with a localized message when the input is not parseable.
Previously any string was persisted, surfacing as an opaque
connection error at request time instead of an immediate UX failure.
- Blank base_url now clears the setting (was already the case but
  exercised explicitly in tests now).

* fix(ci): replace sk-ant- prefixed token in hostings controller test

Same pipelock secret-scan trigger as PR1 fix on registry/anthropic
tests. The sk-ant-* prefix is matched verbatim by the scanner
regardless of value entropy.

* fix(ai): provision pgvector table when it is the default store

#1986 makes pgvector the default vector store for Anthropic installs, but
CreateVectorStoreChunks only ran when VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER=pgvector was set
explicitly — so a fresh Anthropic-only install migrated without the
vector_store_chunks table and failed on uploads/searches.

Add VectorStore::Registry.pgvector_effective? as the single source of truth
for "is pgvector active?" (explicit env OR the Anthropic default), and a new
idempotent migration that enables the extension + creates the table whenever
pgvector is effective and the table is missing — covering fresh and
already-migrated installs without drift. Addresses Codex P1.

* fix(ai): provision pgvector table for Anthropic-default installs

Migration gated on raw VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER==pgvector, so an
Anthropic-default install (which selects pgvector implicitly via
Setting.llm_provider without setting VECTOR_STORE_PROVIDER) skipped
table creation and failed later on a missing vector_store_chunks
relation. Route through VectorStore::Registry.pgvector_effective? —
the single source of truth already shared by the adapter selection.

Addresses Codex P1 review finding.

* fix(ai): provision pgvector chunks table on schema-load installs

The ensure-migration only helps db:migrate upgraders. Fresh installs go
through bin/docker-entrypoint's db:prepare, which loads schema.rb (the
conditional table can't be dumped there — it needs the vector extension)
and marks every migration applied without running it. An Anthropic-only
fresh install therefore selected the pgvector adapter but had no table,
failing with raw PG errors on first upload or search.

Two layers close it:

- VectorStore::Pgvector#ensure_schema! provisions the table idempotently
on first use (mirrors CreateVectorStoreChunks; memoized; failures wrap
in VectorStore::Error, which with_response turns into a clean failed
  response).
- VectorStore::Registry#build_pgvector now gates on
VectorStore::Pgvector.available? (table exists, or extension present),
so installs whose Postgres lacks pgvector entirely degrade to the
assistant's provider_not_configured message instead of raising
  mid-chat.

Also resolves the schema.rb version conflict against main (keep the
branch's 2026_06_01_120000, on top of main's current tables).

* fix(ai): address review nitpicks on pgvector provisioning

- Registry: update the adapter doc comment to mention the
Anthropic-to-pgvector default alongside the openai fallback.
- ensure_schema!: guard the DDL with if_not_exists instead of a Mutex.
Adapter instances are built per call and never shared across threads,
so the realistic race is two processes (web + Sidekiq) provisioning
concurrently; IF NOT EXISTS makes the loser a no-op where a Mutex
would only serialize threads inside one process.

* fix(ai): address review on Anthropic settings UI

- Require an Anthropic model when a custom base URL is saved, mirroring the
OpenAI branch. Auto-submit-on-blur could persist a base URL with no model,
making Provider::Anthropic raise "Model is required..." on every LLM call.
- Narrow the LLM provider selector copy: only chat honors Setting.llm_provider;
categorization, merchant detection and PDF processing still always use OpenAI.
Stop advertising provider switching for those flows until they are wired.
- Reset global Setting.* in test teardown to prevent state leakage, and add a
test covering the new base-URL-requires-model validation.

* feat(ds): conditional LLM provider settings + merged copy

The self-hosting AI section showed both providers' credential blocks at once
and duplicated near-identical copy. Tidy it:

- Replace the provider <select> with a DS::SegmentedControl driving a new
provider-settings Stimulus controller: only the active provider's panel is
shown; switching reveals the other instantly and persists Setting.llm_provider.
- Merge the two byte-identical data-retention lines into one provider-neutral
  Data handling note.
- Scope the token-budget copy to OpenAI-compatible calls (read only by
Provider::Openai) and add an inline 'add a key to activate' hint when the
  active provider is unconfigured.

UI-only; no provider behavior change.

* feat(ds): responsive LLM provider picker (tabs >=sm, select on mobile)

The segmented tabs overflow a phone viewport once there are 3+ providers
(measured: 4 labels want ~409px in a 319px column at 390px wide). Below sm,
fall back to a native <select> -- which doubles as the submitted field -- while
keeping the segmented tabs at sm and up.

Both controls bind to the same provider-settings Stimulus controller (the
select reads its value, the tabs read data-provider), so adding a 3rd/4th
provider scales on mobile with no layout math.

* fix(hostings): sanitize llm provider selector

* test(hostings): avoid brittle provider hint assertion

Guillem Arias FausteandJuan José Mata 6d27285c03 fix(charts): restyle hover tooltips with soft shadow + larger radius (#2029)
* fix(charts): restyle hover tooltips with soft shadow + larger radius

Match the elevation pattern of DS::Select dropdown
(shadow-lg + shadow-border-xs) and increase radius (rounded-lg →
rounded-xl) + padding (p-2 → p-3) for better breathing. Drops the
hard border in favour of the soft drop shadow.

time_series_chart_controller:
- p-2 → p-3, rounded-lg → rounded-xl
- remove border border-secondary
- add shadow-lg shadow-border-xs (theme-aware drop + border-edge)
- add explicit text-primary (was missing per #2011's drift note)
- add z-50 (matches goal_projection + sankey controllers)

sankey_chart_controller:
- bg-gray-700 text-white → bg-container text-primary (theme-aware;
was broken in light mode after dark-bg flip)
- p-2 rounded → p-3 rounded-xl
- add shadow-lg shadow-border-xs
- add font-sans for consistency with the other chart tooltips
- add privacy-sensitive class (was missing — sankey money values
were rendered in the clear with privacy mode on)

DS::Tooltip (icon-trigger help, bg-inverse) is intentionally a
different primitive and is not touched.

Refs #2011 — className consolidation into a shared module is tracked
separately and intentionally not closed by this PR; the new string
applies to two of the three call sites today (time_series, sankey).
The third (goal_projection_chart_controller) lives on the
feat/goals-v2-architecture branch and will adopt the same string when
goals v2 merges.

* fix(charts): align every chart tooltip on the borderless soft-shadow card

One visual contract for all three D3 tooltip surfaces, matching the
design reference: p-4, rounded-2xl, shadow-xl, no edge ring in light
mode. Dark mode keeps a 1px alpha-white ring since a shadow alone
disappears against dark surfaces.

- goal_projection_chart_controller drops its hand-copied class string
(it still carried the old bordered recipe — the drift this util
exists to prevent) and builds its two lines through the shared
factory: secondary date line, tabular value line.
- New content conventions exported alongside the container contract:
  context line = text-xs text-secondary, values = font-medium
tabular-nums. Time-series and sankey adopt them.
- Sankey node titles now escape before .html(); user-named categories
were previously interpolated raw into the tooltip markup.

* fix(charts): match the tooltip surface to the design reference exactly

The previous pass approximated the reference with utility guesses
(rounded-2xl, p-4, shadow-xl, dark ring). The actual spec is a hairline
border ring composed with a soft 0 8px 24px drop shadow, 10px radius,
12x14 padding, and an 80ms left/top glide. Tailwind shadow utilities
can't compose a ring with a custom drop shadow, so the surface moves
into the design system as .chart-tooltip (theme-aware: dark swaps the
ring to alpha-white and lets it carry the edge).

Money/numeric figures also pick up the reference's mono treatment:
font-mono + tabular-nums on every value across time-series, sankey,
and goal-projection, so digits don't jitter while the scrubber moves.

* fix(charts): tighten tooltip padding to 10x12

* feat(charts): give sankey and goal tooltips their missing context rows

Chart tooltips answer three stacked questions: context (what am I
looking at), value (how much), relation (vs what). Time-series already
had all three; the other two were missing rows.

- Sankey links showed a bare "$X (Y%)" with no indication of which
flow was hovered. Links now lead with a swatch-dotted
"Source → Target" context line; nodes get the same dot + name
treatment, tying the card to the ribbon color. The context builder
escapes node names centrally (they're user-named categories).
- Goal projection adds a tertiary relation line — "52% of $20K
target" — computed from the payload the chart already carries, for
both the saved and projected segments. Hidden when the goal has no
positive target. Template is i18n-wired like the existing tooltip
  strings (goals.show.projection.tooltip_target_relation).

Verified with Playwright against the running app: all three surfaces
pass computed-style and content assertions.

* fix(charts): drop the color dot from sankey tooltip context

The hover highlight on the diagram already identifies the ribbon; the
swatch repeated it inside the card. Names alone keep the context line
quieter.

* fix(charts): use the app's sans money treatment in tooltips, not mono

font-mono in this codebase marks code, keys, and admin surfaces; money
is sans + tabular-nums everywhere else (cards, KPIs, tables). Keep the
tabular figures for scrub stability, drop the mono.

* fix(charts): address review — glide opt-in, no shadowed var, truncate cap

- The 80ms left/top transition moved out of .chart-tooltip: it eased the
snap-positioned goal tooltip but made cursor-following tooltips
(sankey, time-series) trail the pointer by a frame. Goal projection
opts back in via inline style; the component comment documents the
  split.
- setRelation reuses _draw()'s targetAmount const instead of declaring
a local 'target' that shadowed the target-date const.
- Sankey context line gets max-w-64 so truncate has a constraint to
  fire against on deep flows.
- Component comment now says 10x12 padding, matching the declaration.

* Revert `schema.rb` changes

Guillem Arias Fauste a461ff97bb fix(sync-toast): morph refresh, defer behind modals, DS conformance (#2105)
* fix(sync-toast): morph refresh, defer behind modals, DS conformance

Follow-up to #1964 (addresses #2071).

- Refresh via Turbo morph visit instead of window.location.reload, so
scroll position and data-turbo-permanent elements (the AI chat panel)
survive and there is no white flash.
- Defer the toast while a <dialog> is open and reveal it on close. A
refresh mid-modal closes the dialog and discards its in-progress input,
which is the exact data loss this toast exists to prevent. Handles
  stacked modals.
- Refresh CTA and close button now use DS::Button (secondary / icon). The
close is always visible, inside the card, focusable, and has an
aria-label; the old hover-only corner chip was unreachable on touch and
  not keyboard-focusable.
- Add role="status" / aria-live="polite" to the toast.
- Fix icon color: "inverse" is not a key in the icon helper color map, so
it silently rendered no color class (dark icon on bg-info). Use "white",
which maps to the functional text-inverse token.
- Tighten copy: "New data available" / "Refresh".
- Sync the broadcast comment with the actual replace/morph behavior.

* fix(sync-toast): detach deferred dialog listener on disconnect

A toast replaced by a newer broadcast_replace_to while a <dialog> was open kept
its 'close' listener attached, so the detached controller fired #reveal()/#arm()
when the dialog closed — a spurious auto-refresh from a stale toast (and repeated
syncs could queue several). Store the dialog + handler refs and remove the
listener in disconnect(). Flagged by codex + coderabbit on #2105.

* fix(sync-toast): re-check interaction and dialogs at refresh-fire time

The interaction check ran once at arm time but the refresh fired two
seconds later. The post-dialog reveal made that window matter: the user
closes a dialog sitting on a form, resumes typing, and the timer morphs
the page — wiping non-turbo-permanent input, the exact data-loss class
this toast exists to prevent. A dialog opened during the window had the
mirror problem (the refresh would close it).

Bail inside the callback instead, leaving the toast visible for a
manual refresh, matching the mid-form behavior. Also documents the
dialog-removed-without-close edge on the deferred listener.

Guillem Arias FausteandJuan José Mata 0fe81cefe6 feat(ds): DS::SegmentedControl — fix invisible dark selected pill (#2145)
* feat(ds): DS::SegmentedControl; fix invisible dark selected pill (#2137)

Ships DS::SegmentedControl — a single-select pill group (filters, mode
switches) — plus a Lookbook preview, tests, and an exemplar migration of the
budget filter tabs.

The audit flagged the dark selected pill as invisible: the bespoke controls
paired a container-inset track (gray-800) with a gray-700 active pill, barely a
step apart. The primitive uses the DS tab-token values (tab-bg-group -> a
near-black alpha-black-700 track in dark), against which the gray-700 active
pill clearly reads. Values are inlined with @variant theme-dark because
@apply-ing the custom tab utilities drops their dark override.

- app/components/DS/segmented_control.rb: slot-based with_segment(label,
  active:, href:, **opts); link or button; full_width: for equal footprint;
selected style isolated in .segmented-control__segment--active so a controller
can toggle it as one class.
- .segmented-control recipe in components.css.
- Migrate budgets/_budget_tabs; budget_filter_controller now toggles the single
--active class instead of five raw utility classes.

Verified in-browser: dark active pill reads (gray-700 on near-black track);
filter toggle still works. Tests + rubocop clean.

Deferred (follow-up): auth sign-in/up switch, transaction-type tabs, and other
bespoke segmented controls — same primitive, one migration each.

* fix(a11y): expose segmented-control selection + derive active from filter param

- DS::SegmentedControl: set aria-current (links) / aria-pressed (buttons) from
the segment's active state so screen readers announce the selection.
- budget_filter_controller: mirror aria-pressed when it toggles the active class.
- _budget_tabs: compute each segment's initial active: from params[:filter] so
a ?filter=over_budget request server-renders the correct pill (no flash before
Stimulus runs). Addresses CodeRabbit reviews on #2145.

* fix(ds): close unterminated segmented-control CSS rule

The --active rule swallowed the table-scroll block's comment opener and
never closed, so the Tailwind build died with 'Missing closing } at
@layer components' and both test jobs failed at boot. Restore the
closing brace and the /* opener.

Also add the budgets.show.filter.aria_label locale key the budget tabs
view referenced only through its inline default.
